iPad 2 and Sony Vaio Series

It can be hard to keep up with the ever changing technological advancements these days and when it comes to laptops, things can sometimes seem to be changing on a daily basis. Laptops being released seem to be ever thinner, faster and have better graphics and now with the advent of tablet PCs the way we use mobile PC technology is changing forever.

The father of tablet technology, Apple, is creating a stir as the world waits for the release of the new iPad 2 at the end of March. Apparently 33% thinner and 15% lighter than the original iPad it comes equipped with not one but two cameras, one which faces the user for FaceTime and one which faces out for high definition video capture.

The iPad 2 still maintains a mega battery life of 10 hours but uses Apples latest operating system, the iOS4.3 which claims to be the most advanced mobile operating system in the world. The dual core A5 chip is twice as fast as the original iPad, enabling better graphics and smoother surfing from this latest release. As well as all this the new iPad 2 has a customizable smart cover which can be used as a stand to lean the tablet on. Sadly it still lacks a USB port and with only 64GB of built in memory existing iPad owners may not be able to justify the expense of an upgrade.

Apple have had little true competition for the iPad so far, although Samsung tried their best with the Galaxy Tab as did a few others. There is, however, rumor of an HP TouchPad being released later in the year which will use a web based operating system and by all accounts should give the iPad 2 a run for its money, but there are no further details, price indication or release data available yet.

Back in the world of more normal looking laptops, Sony have announced the release of the updated Vaio S series. The new Vaio will include pretty much everything users look for in a laptop; huge amounts of memory, speedy processing, plenty of battery life and many options for upgrades. The S Series will have a superb HD screen and a super efficient battery which can last for up to 15 hours. As well as this the new laptop will have Blu-ray, Intel core i5 or i7 processor and USB 3.0, so it looks like the one to go for if you want to future proof your laptop for the next few years.

Having said that, it’s not 3D is it? And with 3D being the hottest new development at this time in the world of technology, many are speculating that it will be the future of laptops. Sony this month release the Vaio F 3D which comes with a pair of 3D glasses and the technology to immerse the user in games, films or whatever they are using. Of course it can be used in 2D mode as well, but with a price tag of £1,800 you’ll want to make sure you make the most of your investment.

Samsung are also hoping to make a splash in the world of laptops this season with the wafer thin and stylishly slick Series 9. Already available in the US, the Samsung is due to hit UK shops in April and features a wafer thin design encased in duralumin, a material used to build aircraft. These laptops are not only about good looks, the Intel Core i5 processor and 128GB SSD will make performance fast, powerful and smooth. Estimated to be retailed in the UK at around £1,400, this is one of the more expensive laptops available but also promises to combine top performance with devilishly handsome good looks into quite an attractive package.
