Ubuntu 9.10 is the latest Ubuntu’s release that brings in myriad of fixes and new features that make it the most user-friendly Linux OS ever made. GadgetMix.com spent quite a lot of time with the Alphas, Betas and the final release and we are impressed!
People use their netbooks for a variety of purposes. Some use it for Internet surfing on-the-go and some for basic office editing. There are many of us, who use these nice little devices for GPS navigation. Netbook screens are perfect for this as they are smaller than the big and bulky notebooks and have bigger displays than the usual in-car GPS devices.

Alright, so we have completed doing various tests on the EEE 1008HA and we have developed a both love and hate relationship with this slim netbook from ASUS.
With so many netbook manufactures now breaking into the 10-inch+ screen limit, Acer was no way going to left behind in the business where it actually rules. The Acer A0751H is the first Acer Aspire One to sport an Intel Atom Z 520 processor that is clocked at 1.3GHz. However, the best part of this netbook is its resolution: 1366 x 768 px, which gives it an obvious edge over its competitors. So, was it able to impress us?
After the sweet success of ASUS EEE S101, ASUS rolled out a hard disk version of it, the EEE S101H. It is built along the lines of S101. It is just 2.5cm thin; weighs just 1.1kg and its metallic finish makes it perfect for making a style statement. But, do not go swayed away by its looks, it is pretty powerful too. We all knew that SONY did some serious engineering behind the scenes to make the VAIO X (review here) so slim and still somehow kept the overall feature-set attractive. However, that did not stop few tech geeks from Japan to take apart the whole unit. They came to a conclusion that VAIO X is, infact, harder to assemble than the Apple’s Macbook Air which happens to be its direct contender.
“By the way, it would be very difficult to come up with the assembly sequence for the Vaio X,” an engineer said. “Are the components mounted all at once after connecting them with one another? There must be a correct procedure, but it must be very difficult. That’s why Sony manufactures the PC at a plant in Japan.”

Sony Vaio X Limited edition Ladies Sleeve and Pouch is on sale in Japan. Both costing 12,000 yen ($132), this is certainly not an affordable accessory, but then VAIO X is not that affordable either!
Ever since the Sony VAIO X has been unveiled, it has amazed a lot of people around the world. This netbook is so light; just about the weight of a SONY VAIO P. But that is an 8-inch notebook and the SONY VAIO X is an 11-inch device.
So what makes it so light, other than the fact the Sony has used carbon fiber in it? Well, it is the 64GB SSD that weighs just 7gms! Great job, Sony.
Sony VAIO X has been officially launched in India with most popular Bollywood actress being used exclusively for its promotion. Which one to choose?
“The whole size zero thing in India has more to do with people being slim and lightweight. And I am slim and lightweight. And so is this laptop. I think this new laptop is very chic and sexy and people also often associate me with these qualities”, says Kareena
We adored the carbon fiber body of the VAIO X and we could understand that SONY has done an incredible job in making a notebook this light. But, here is something weird that was spotted at press release event in China: a transparent edition of VAIO X netbook/notebook.
SONY has finally uncovered the specifications of the VAIO X. We now know that it runs Atom Z550 CPU which runs at 2GHz clock speed. Weighing just 1.6pounds (0.7kg), it is very light given its size. It is infact lighter than the first generation ASUS EEE PC (70x series). It is also just 0.5-inch thick. Featuring an 11.1-inch display, it packs the usual 1366×768 pixels. The display is LED backlight too and uses the infamous Intel GMA 500 chipset, which does not behaves nicely when running HD videos (so far). It also incorporates GPS so that you never get lost again. It uses 128GB SSD for storage and has 2GB RAM.
Just like VAIO P, it has two memory card slots: Memory Stick Pro and SD card slot. VAIO X runs Windows 7 Home Premium (which means no XP compatibility mode for you).

In Japan at CEATEC 2009, ultraportable Sony Vaio X is (again) being displayed. Although we still do not know much about its processor, but we have come to know that its claim to have a 24 hour battery is wrong. The VAIO X won’t be sold with any such battery.
A larger capacity battery that should run for a long time will be made available separately. The standard battery which the VAIO X comes with does NOT offer any sort of all day battery life and stick out from bottom ruining its slim and sleek profile
It is not an unknown fact that SONY has done a great job with the extremely elegant-looking Sony Vaio X. When one looks at it, he/she immediately gets the impression of how sleek this netbook/mini-notebook is. Apart from its nicely designed keyboard, it has a great touchpad with two left and right click buttons too that do not require much effort to register clicks.
Thanks to the great engineers at SONY, they did not go for the flaps to make it look streamlined (like the case in ASUS EEE 1008HA). The two USB 2.0 ports are fully exposed to the user. Also present is a the Kensington lock, power port and earphone jack.
The ultra thin and light netbook by Sony, VAIO X is near its official release as it has shown itself up at Sony Style Japan. Currently, we do not know what processor is being used in this notebook/netbook. It was earlier shown with Intel Atom processor, but we expect it to change to some CULV processor upon its release.
Sony has unveiled its latest netbook offering: the VAIO X. It is very sleek and is almost half-an-inch thin. This new gorgeous-looking ultraportable comes with an 11.1-inch screen and weighs just 1.5 pounds! Reason? It uses carbon fiber. Right now, the specs have not been fully finalized, but for the particular moment, it is there with an Atom processor. However, we expect SONY to swap it with a bit more powerful CULV processor. It has got a 2GB RAM module and a 31Wh battery. Its resolution is 1366 x 768 and the display is matte.
Other than that, it comes with 2 USB 2.0 ports, VGA out and has WWAN support. The official word regarding the specs is expected to come in the month of October and will go on sale after Windows 7’s release.
So is it valid replacement to their now defunct VAIO TT? Well, VAIO TT was very very expensive, which retailed for over $2000. SONY was not able to sell a lot of those units due to similar form factor offered by the netbooks that retailed for as low as $200, which is 1/10th of VAIO TT’s price. If the SONY still decides to ship with the ATOM processor, then VAIO X will NOT be a VAIO TT replacement as the TT was able to run Vista pretty nicely and had 4GB RAM. Unfortunately, due to wonderful restrictions enforced by Intel in their Atom processors, it is not possible to use have 4GB RAM in a netbook. Atom, although runs Vista quite well (after a bit of tweaking and 2GB RAM), but the experience and speed is not as good as XP. Perhaps Windows 7 will be able to do what Vista could not do: Kill Windows XP.
