Soon to Ship: Intel Atom Oak Trail

  • Sharebar

It’s been a while since we reported on Intel Atom Oak Trail chips as the production has been delayed. A whole new wave of low powered processors is now ready to be released by Intel. These chips are designed mainly for tablets and mobile devices that are ultra portable. The first one up is the Intel Z670 and it is based on the Oak Trail platform. Though compared to the ARM based chips, in terms of power consumption, it is still not the best option on that area. However, there is a massive advantage to this chip also: these are X86 processors so that means you can run Windows so you can just go ahead and install your windows OS without the need to wait for compatibility for the ARM chips.

According to Intel, Starting in May, around 35 tablets, ultra portables and other mobile devices will start shipping with the new chips. Some brands include Lenovo, Fujitsu, as well as Viliv. The Z670 is a low power processor that can handle fan-less designs to enable more silent functionality. This chip is single core and is 1.5GHz with support for hyper threading. It can handle high definition video and can support Flash. Intel is trying to access the tablet industry in order to compete with current favorites, Qualcomm, NVIDIA, and other companies and their future works.
