Samsung Galaxy Tab WiFi cheated on graphics
Just recently the WiFi only version of the Samsung Galaxy Tab went on sale. Samsung Galaxy Tab WiFi is similar to the 3G model, with some notable differences. The company did not publicize these changes but a number of users are already going on the record with their discoveries. First, the new WiFi version sports the ARM Cortex processor instead of the Samsung Hummingbird. They both offer the same performance. When it comes to the graphics however, there is a downgrade with the use of the PowerVR SGX530 compared to last year’s SGX540. To put it in perspective, where PowerVR SGX530 offers graphic specs of 14 million triangles/sec, 3G model using PowerVR SGX540 outputs 90 million triangles/sec. That is in plain language, WiFi model’s graphics offer 6 times less of a performance, than that of 3G model. While Samsung Galaxy Tab 3G model plays 1080p HD video, WiFi model struggles with 720p HD video.
Another notable difference is the bluetooth. WiFi version of Samsung Galaxy Tab uses the 2.1 version instead of 3.0. The processor in use was said to be a Texas Instruments OMAP3 but it does not really have much difference to last year’s. Aside from these differences, those who got the chance to check the new WiFi version under the hood tell that all other features and components are the same. Both are still 7 inches (dah) and use the Android 2.2.
