HOW TO: upgrade RAM or Hard Disk in ASUS EEE 1000H

  • Sharebar

When it comes to upgrading RAM in the ASUS EEE PCs, it is no hidden truth that it is a very easy job. Even though 1GB RAM in the ASUS EEE 1000H seems to be very sufficient, but there are some power users which would like to more RAM if:

  • they wish to run Vista, which always like more RAM
  • if they want to use RAMdisk (see this article to implement RAMdisk)
  • just for fun!

I was getting many requests by the users to write a simple guide to upgrade RAM on the EEE 1000H, which I reviewed just a couple of days ago.

Use a Phillips “crosshead” screwdriver to open the RAM and hard disk access door

EEE 1000H makes swapping the HDD so easily. Below the HDD, is the RAM chip.

Gently, take the RAM chip out by moving both of the holders outside. The chip will come out.

Take it out and slide in the new RAM. Take extra care of the holders. This is the RAM which comes with the ASUS 1000H. It is A-Data branded DDR2 RAM with 400MHz bus speed.

Same problem as shean chang. I installed a 2GB ddr2sodimm PC2 5300 256Mx64 Ram chip and it’s still only reports .99 GB ram in system properties. This was bought as a package set of 2x2GB so Im hoping the reason isnt because i must install both 2GBs on the same system to register as 2GB each.

You just need to push F2 before the xp startup to get to bios. Then, disable the quick boot, quiet boot, and the boost boot. Save settings. It may not require all three, but I did because I didn’t have time to test individually. Then, restart your computer and it will slow boot, ie with the bios postings, and etc. Once in windows, check your windows Ram. It should read 2gb, or 1.99gb. Then, you can restart and go to bios to enable the quick boot, quiet boot, and boost boot. Once windows starts quickly this time, you should still see the 2gb ram. No need to install another xp.

**Im gonna give thhis a try and hope it works for everyone as well. I would try it 1st myself before reporting but knowing myself, i wudnt care enuf to come find this post again to report my success..
