Kubuntu gets Global Menu
Kubuntu 10.10 has finally got its application menu integration ready. The application menu, also called “Global Menu” is not same as the one found in UNE 10.10, but it is using the same infrastructure.
The menu works with all GTK/GNOME apps. Oh, and it is still in BETA, so don’t get angry if something does not works for you as expected. (submit bugs [here])
Note – For those who do not know, Kubuntu Netbook Edition 10.10 is dead already. Read our Kubuntu Netbook Edition review (10.04)

If its using the same infrastructure, why is it different in look-and-feel to the UNE one? It will inevitably lead to a alienation of Kubuntu again. Since UNE is the default (whether we like it or not), it is not wise to design an interface very distinct from it. See what has happened to Slab v/s Kickoff in openSUSE. Although I use KDE-only, I really wish we could have the slab/Mint like main menu in KDE.
It is not about copying but something that feels right for use.
Cheers.
Please sort spreading FUD The Kubuntu netbook Remix is Not dead. rather the installation process has been unified with that or the regular kubuntu. It detects screen resolution during installation process for deciding whether to use netbook remix or regular kubuntu and the config can be changed from the system settings. Get your facts right.
The author is correct. There will be no Kubuntu netbook edition.
