Viliv S10 Blade Reviewed

  • Sharebar

Viliv S10 Blade lies somewhere between UMPCs and netbooks. It has the innards of netbooks, but features of an UMPC. This beauty from Viliv is powered by the top-of-the-line Atom Z-series CPU – Atom Z550 that runs at 2.0GHz clock speed and comes with 32GB of solid state storage. Unlike most netbooks that run Windows 7 Starter OS, Viliv has bundled it with Windows 7 Home Premium OS.

On the paper, it may appear that the Atom Z550 is much faster than the Atom N270/N280, but one should know that clock speed should not be considered as the litmus test for judging the performance.  The performance is on-par with the Atom N270 (1.6GHz). Atom Z550 scored 1458 in PCMark and registered 1755 as its CPU score. Atom N270 scored 1566 in PCMark and got 1482 as its CPU score.

According to the review by PCwatch (Japanese), its screen looks great. We say, why not? After all, it packs much more pixels than the conventional netbook that you find in the market. It has a 10.1-inch display has 1366×768 pixel resolution. Not only that the display is touch-sensitive. Unfortunately, it is resistive and not capacitive like the one found on iPhone.  The stylus rests in the silo present in the left side of body.

Coming to the keyboard, it is good enough for providing comfortable typing experience. The touchpad is a bit finicky but gets the work done. Regarding battery life, it easily ran for 8 hours and 5 minutes on a single charge, which means you can take it out with you without lugging the charger with you. Also, the AC adapter is pretty portable too.

Note: You can go for 60GB HDD/64GB version

Viliv has always been mean as a miser when it comes to price their products in accordance with the market. It retails at around $1,102. Granted, at that price, one can easily get 4-5 netbooks but you don’t get goodies like top-of-the-line Z-series CPU, awesome battery life and solid-state storage.
