Panasonic has updated its hardy Toughbook 19 laptop. The new Touchbook runs a i5-3320M processor and boasts a roomy but quick 7200rpm 500GB shock-mounted mechanical drive.
USB-3 functionality features port, as does a 10% boost to battery runtime, and the touchpad has been completely overhauled in favor of a VersaPad solution which Panasonic claims offers improved reponsiveness.
The ambient light sensor should further help preserve electron juice in tight spots and will beam up the backlit keyboard where configured as an option.
Panasonic Toughbook 19 convertible tablet PC packs a 10.1-inch 1366 x 768 pixel matte display (or 10.4 as option), whose pixel-painting is the responsibility of the integrated HD4000 GPU. Display can be upgraded from Touchscreen to Dual Touch both XGA.
There are a capable 8GB 1333MHz DDR3 RAM in there, with a high-end Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6235 WiFi module bringing dual-band connectivity and also low-voltage, high-bandwidth Bluetooth 4.0.
The all-important military tests have been passed with flying colors – weather-resistant shell, Flex shock-mounted HDD support for lightning-quick hard drive swapping, and a ready-installed screen protector, which can be replaced once it has ‘taken the bullet’ for your precious display.
If you’re wanting to really push the amphibious landing craft out, a dual-touch display is configurable, as well as 128GB/256GB SSDs, and fingerprint scanner and SmartCard reader are also offered as options.
Go-anywhere mobile connectivity for this Toughbook 19 is assured via optional 4G/LTE (Verizon, or AT&T) or Gobi 3G modules, and integrated GPS can be wired in so your seargant knows where you are in the field while he sups his brandy-laced tea from the comfort of his favorite armchair. And just to remind you it isn’t a toy, there’s a sobering $3549 price tag to keep your frost-bitten feet on the ground. 36-month guarantee is included in the price.
