Long before smartphones became an essential part of everyday life, the mobile industry was undergoing a quiet revolution. Between 2006 and 2008, I had the honor of contributing to that transformation as a Pocket PC expert and judge for Smartphone Magazine — becoming the first and only Indian to hold this role at the time.

This recognition not only marked a personal milestone but also positioned India within the global conversation around mobile technology evaluation and innovation. Not going to lie, I was very honored to have this title. I was just 19 in 2006.
The Role: Evaluating the Future of Mobile Computing
As a Smartphone Magazine judge, my responsibility was to test, evaluate, and rate Windows-powered smartphones across multiple categories. This role required a deep understanding of both hardware and software — at a time when the concept of a “smartphone ecosystem” was still evolving.
Key evaluation areas included:
- User interface & usability
- Performance & multitasking capabilities
- Battery efficiency
- Enterprise features & productivity tools
- Connectivity & synchronization
- Innovation in mobile computing

The devices we evaluated were the precursors to modern smartphones — designed for professionals, enterprises, and early adopters who relied on mobile productivity.
Why This Recognition Mattered
In the mid-2000s, the global tech landscape was dominated by Western and East Asian voices. Being selected as a judge from India demonstrated that technical expertise and industry insight were no longer geographically limited.
This achievement:
- Showcased India’s growing influence in technology analysis
- Highlighted the country’s emerging community of mobile power users
- Opened doors for broader global participation in tech evaluation
For me personally, it reinforced a belief that passion, curiosity, and hands-on experience can transcend borders.
The Windows Mobile Era: A Turning Point
During 2006–2008, Windows Mobile devices represented the cutting edge of mobile productivity. Features such as push email, document editing, stylus input, and enterprise synchronization were revolutionary at the time.

Evaluating these devices offered a front-row seat to innovations that shaped today’s smartphone standards, including:
- Mobile office productivity
- App ecosystems
- Touch and stylus interaction
- Business mobility solutions
Many concepts we tested then are now taken for granted in modern Android and iOS devices.
How This Experience Shaped GadgetMix
My work as a judge laid the foundation for what would later become GadgetMix — a platform dedicated to practical, hands-on technology insights.
The experience taught me:
- The importance of unbiased evaluation
- The value of real-world usability over specifications
- The need for clear, user-focused tech content
These principles continue to guide GadgetMix today.
A Proud Milestone, A Continuing Journey
Being the first Indian to serve as a Smartphone Mag judge remains one of the proudest moments of my career. It was more than a personal achievement — it was a signal that India had a place in shaping global technology discourse.
Today, as technology evolves faster than ever, the mission remains the same: to test, understand, and share knowledge that empowers users worldwide.
