ECS Tablets showcased at CeBIT

  • Sharebar

Several tablets are being revealed by Elitegroup Computer Systems at the CeBIT event in Germany. This Taiwanese company manufacturing original devices n so you would normally not see an ECS brand on US shores. However, you might see the same product on a different brand name. Let us start with the list of tablets that the company is promoting as of the moment. They will be offering 7 and 10 inch tablet models that run on the Atom Oak Trail processor and they will also run on the ARM chips from Marvell. The 10 inch model will have a 10.1 inch screen, capacitive and offers resolutions ranging from 1024×600 up to 1366×768. These larger tablets will be running on Atom Z670 Lincroft chip and will run Windows 7. The model can support up to 2GB of RAM and will use Solid State disks. It has Bluetooth, WiFi and an optional 3G. The 10 inch models weight about 1.8 lbs.

Let us move to the smaller 7 inch tablets. The screens have a resolution of 1024×600 but most of the specifications are quite similar from the 10 inch models. The touch screen supports multi touch and will have the same radios as well as processor. One interesting thing though about this model is that it was said it can handle MeeGo Linux, Android and Windows 7. This is very much true with their larger models but it was not revealed on the larger models the versatility of the xc86 chip for some odd reason.

Another options to look out for in the near future with or without the ECS tag is the 10.1 inch tablets using the Marvell 88AP510 or the Marvell Armada 10. This is a powerful and integrated, low powered system on chip that includes a processor, GPU, video accelerator, as well as other interesting peripherals. This helps for a faster and smoother response under sophisticated and complex OS. Internet browsing response will ideally be faster with the chip and it can handle multimedia like a pro. It also will score better battery and energy management Aside from this chip, the model will use the Android 2.2. On top of that, all the other specs are the same as with all the other offerings of the said manufacturer. All the models from ECS will utilize ambient light sensors, G sensors and battery power that can last for 5 to 6 hours.

There is no data if the said tablet offerings from the ECS will reach the US shores or the launch date. There is also no information regarding possible shipping but it will definitely be on a lower priced option. Nonetheless, with regards to the specs, it would have been more interesting had they used Honeycomb on the 10 in ch tablets. All they vary would be screen sizes and nothing much at all. It might be fast but it would be better to compete with better large tablet OS like Android 3.0 this will make it more relevant in the market. Nonetheless, thing can change in a few weeks or months.
