Review – Samsung NC110 netbook
Another 10 inch netbook was released by Samsung while back is the NC110. The NC110 netbook weighs around 2.7 lbs with a matte display measuring 10.1 inches. The screen resolution is at 1024×600 pixels. Samsung NC110 uses an Intel Atom N455 processor and a 1GB RAM. The hard disk drive is 250GB. The list price for the model is around $330 but you can buy a basic model for around $290. In a nutshell, the Samsung NC110 netbook itself is not fancy or unique but it has some good features like decent touchpad, Bluetooth 3.0 and really good speakers that you will not find in most 10 inch netbook in the same price range.
Design
Compared to the NF30 netbook, the Samsung NC110 has a much simpler aesthetics. This is a good advantage of the NC110 since it is lighter and much smaller, removing the bulk present in NF30 while still keeping the good features in. Samsung NC110 weighs 2.73 pounds. The screen is 10 inch matte screen with 1024 x 600 pixel resolution and quality decent enough for regular functions like browsing or typing documents. When it comes to viewing angles, the side to side angles are quite decent. Tilting up or down can wash out the colors and make them less brilliant.
The keyboard is very nice but it gets cramped up in some areas such as the arrow keys that are very close to each other. The touchpad is really good and has a nice texture to it. The laptop cover has a shiny finish which attracts fingerprints.
On the side of Samsung NC110 you’ll find 3 USB ports, an Ethernet port, VGA port, and mic and headphone jacks. SD card slot has been placed on the front side.
Battery and performance
When it comes to specs, the NC110 does not have the most unique features. Actually, they are very much present in many other netbooks on this size and price range. When it comes to processing and graphics, it can handle standard definition up to some 720p playback files. Of course, Samsung NC110 netbook really was made for basic browsing and computer processes. The great thing about NC110 netbook is that it uses the Fast Start technology so the computer will resume after a few seconds. When it comes to battery life at 6 hours for basic notebook processes, it is quite decent already but it is not the best in the market today. Dell Inspiron Mini 10 for example, lasts about 9 hours on single charge. The speakers are stereo and they make clear and good quality sounds and even if it does not offer a lot of bass, it is still decent for general media experience.
Overall
The Samsung NC110 is a very robust and good quality netbook that you can use for general computing and browsing. It is not the most powerful or aesthetically complex netbook in its price range and it does have a couple of weaknesses in performance and design. However, for just under $300, you will find that this notebook can already suffice your needs for a solid, high quality and desirable piece for your daily computing.
