Review: Samsung RF711- S02DE

Samsung has implemented the new Intel Sandy Beach on its RF lines. The one RF we’d like to review now is the 17 inch RF711 that uses the Intel Core i7. Samsung RF711 notebook is expected to work well for multimedia processes. This is also very convenient for those who love to play games because of the NVIDIA GE Force GT 540M. With its HD+ display, a BluRay drive and a generous hard drive and RAM, you will be tempted to take a look at this model.

Let us start with the outer casing. The lid of the Samsung RF711 is a glossy black surface. It looks chic, sleek and very modern. One problem with this is that dust and fingerprints can be easily seen so you should carry a microfiber wipe to clean it every now and then. A good contrast for the shiny surface is the more metallic, chrome -like finish. The hinges that secures the lid is very solid and it is able to hold the slightly heavy screen and lid in place. The interior of Samsung RF711 is matte.

When it comes to connectivity of Samsung RF711, you can depend on the updated USB 3.0 ports. Now you have high speed ports that you can use for many functions. All over the sides, you can find the nitty gritty features. There is the RJ45, VGA, HDMI, a couple of USB 2.0 and 2 audio outputs. There is a Kensington lock, Optical drive and the 2 USB 3.0 ports. There is also a 4 in 1 card reader that is located in front.

The Keyboard of the Samsung RF711 is a classic keyboard style with number pad on the right side. Nonetheless, the typing experience on the keyboard was quite pleasant and the key-drop is not that low. If you are someone who is not used to loud keyboard noises when typing, it does not result that much noise in this laptop. Aside from the traditional keys, you can also find additional control keys to enable features like WLAN or the sound. You also have a mute button for faster audio management. When it comes to the touchpad of Samsung RF711, the one you can see on this laptop is quite big at 105 millimeters. There is the left and right mouse buttons separated from the touch pad by a bar in the middle.

The screen of Samsung RF711 is 17.3 inches with an LED background and a reflective surface. This LED screen is named SuperBright and was designed to offer more defined images and brilliant colors. The screen has a pixel resolution of 1600×900 which means it is just between HD ready and Full HD. The brightness of the screen is really ample for its name. When used for outdoor conditions, however, the glossy display made it impossible to do anything under the glare. The display angles of the screen are spectacular so you can really enjoy watching with friends in a wider angle.

Overall, for gaming, applications, overall temperature and noise, Samsung RF711 notebook meet the demands for a notebook enthusiast. The only issue here is the battery life. Overall, Samsung RF711 is a nice and reliable laptop to have for general computing and for multimedia experience. You can pick this Samsung RF711 up at Amazon for $1033.
