Toshiba AC100 Review
Couple of days back, Toshiba rolled-out a new mini-laptop running the Google Android operating system – AC100. Toshiba has adopted Nvidia Tegra 2 (250) processor in its latest netbook. While the processor should not have any problems running the high-definition video content, you would not be able to run any x86 Windows OS.
Toshiba AC100 comes with a 10.1-inch display and comes with the regular 1024×600 pixel resolution, but is much, much lighter at 0.9kg.
Folks at pcwatch have done a review of this netbook and here is the crux of their review:
1. Compared to the netbooks, you get only one USB port.
2. However, it does come with an HDMI port
3. It comes with Android 2.1 and sports a custom display screen
4. Toshiba has also added some of their own apps to the smartbook. The most notable is the Opera browser which is being used as the default web-browser instead of the Google’s own web-browser for Android devices.
5. Other nifty Toshiba’s utilities include “PowerPlan Manager” which switches your device to automatic power saving when on battery. Another very useful app is “Toshiba File Manager” which makes managing files on the device very simple. Other (self-explanatory) apps included are – Documents to Go, FBReader (eReader), Android VNC (a VNC client) and AndAppStore (app store).
6. As mentioned earlier, Tegra 2 processor allows you to play 720p and 1080p video content.
7. Excellent battery life – 7 hours with video playback or 48 hours running nothing with unit on all the time.
Sadly, the netbook will not be available in the US for some more months.
