China launches an upgraded X230s notebook. New X230s version is lighter and slimmer.
Lenovo upgrades last year’s ThinkPad X230 notebook. The new X230s notebook is only 0.7 inches (17.7mm) thick. That is quite the trim considering the X230 was full 25mm thick. The weight came down as well. From 1.5kg on X230 we go down to 1.28kg (2.8 pounds) in X230s.
X230s has a full size island-type backlit keyboard with the track pin, and oversized Windows 8 optimized trackpad. Among ports we’ll find mini display port, VGA, and 2 x USB 3.0. Rumor has it, there is to be a removable hard drive and option for 9 mm thick 2.5 inch hard drive. The buyer can choose 1TB of standard drive, or 240GB of solid state. For skyping X230s has 720p front facing camera and for added security Lenovo added a fingerprint reader. There may or may not be a SIM card slot on a side as well.
Engadget guesses the 12.5 inch IPS display will have a 1,366 x 768 pixel resolution, but it has not been confirmed just yet. Lenovo launches this X230s model in China. The notebook is priced at 7,399 yuan, or $1,200. There is no word on ThinkPad X230s business notebook shipping anywhere outside China.
