Motorola Webtop laptop dock
In the smart phone realm, the Motorola Atrix 4G has got to be the most intriguing of all. For one thing, this smart phone uses a very fast NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor and it also connects via 4G. Of course, the most intriguing reason is that Motorola has revealed some laptop docking stations that can transform the smart phone into a laptop, even a home entertainment system. According to Motorola CEO Sanjay Jha, the docking station will not only be for the Atrix 4G. At the latter part of the year, other high end smart phones will be able to utilize this amazing docking station.
Jha commented during the Morgan Stanley Conference. He said that the webtop will be utilized by other phones at the end of the year. According to Jha, the only reason why the Droid Bionic will ship without the webtop is that there was not enough time to get it ready. With that, it is very possible that the Droid Bionic will also have the webtop option soon. If that is true, the Droid Bionic will be the second smart phone to be able to use the Webtop.
One hope that as the number of smart phone options offered by Motorola expands, the cheaper the webtop will be. As of the moment, the Webtop option for the Atrix 4G is at $200 on a 2 year plan. If you want to get both the unit and the webtop, you would have to pay $500. If you do not want to sign a contract, then you would have to pay $499.99 which is twice the price for a regular netbook. As you can see, the docking station does not have its own processor and memory. It solely relies on the smart phone. That means you get only a laptop like device with a screen and a keyboard.
