NEC dual screen smartphone Medias W N-05E
With two 4.3-inch qHD displays, Medias smartphone acts as 5.6-inch tablet when opened. This dual-screen android handset can also be folded to work like a smartphone with one 4.3-inch touch-screen. There is another entertainment mode if you will, turn on the second screen when watching a movie and both screens play the same content. Much like in Asus Taichi 21, the second screen can display content for your buddy sitting opposite of you.
Movies can of course be also watched on a 5.6-inch tablet display (two displays of 540 x 960 pixel resolution), only the bezel in the middle of the display may be a bit distracting.
The dual screen concept is an excellent idea, especially for a multitasking user. Email app, for example, uses one screen to list emails while the second screen allows to preview an email. In the landscape mode the entire bottom screen turns into a qwerty keyboard.
If suitable apps get customized to dual screen smartphones, this could be a great gaming tablet as well. The hardware specs certainly assure of smooth sailing. Under the deck, dual-core 1.5GHz processor uses 1GB of RAM. If 16GB of built in storage isn’t enough get a 32GB microSD card.
Medias phablet has one 8.1MP camera. The 2,100mAh battery that comes with Medias may take you through the day in one screen mode, but it may not be sufficient to power two displays for long.
NEC Medias W N-05E is due for release in Japanese NTT Docomo in April. It’s 4G LTE function is only suitable for their network. As for US availability, or elsewhere we’ll keep an eye pealed.
