Windows Metro UI On Android Or iOS

Windows Metro UI On Android Or iOS

With so many operating systems out there, all borrowing ideas from each other, unique features are rare. But Windows 8 user interface is certainly revolutionary. The Metro UI, according to earlier reports – is something you either love or hate almost instantly. I love it. Microsoft has found an unusual way to root out potential [...]

Windows On ARM Delay Predicted

Windows On ARM Delay Predicted

Microsoft promise to make Windows 8 run on ARM and moderate specced hardware has a catch – ARM-based devices will have to wait until 2013, because developers want to concentrate on Intel and AMD x86 devices. Mid-2013 is the new target date, apparently because programs written primarily for x86 devices must be laboriously re-written for [...]

AMD Chips and Windows 7 featured on the MSI Windpad 110w

Now we are seeing the AMD 10 inch Windows Tablet called the Windpad 110w. Compared to the already shipping Windpad 100w, this uses a low power processor and it uses the AMD Radeon HD 6250 for the graphics. The 100w uses the Intel Atom. A lot of tech sites have already got up close and [...]

Increase computer performance using eBoostr

If you want to boost your laptop/netbook performance but you do not wish to swap it, you would normally add more RAM to your computer. It will help boost the processing of your OS better and help in multitasking but this means purchasing an additional RAM, opening your computer and then manually installing it. It [...]

CULV or Intel Atom processor: A Comparison

CULV or Intel Atom processor: A Comparison

From the past couple months, we have seen an incredible rise in the usage of the CULV processors in the notebooks, especially the ultra-slim ones from MSI.(MSI X400, MSI X610, HP DM3, Wind U120 and so on)

CULV processors are more powerful than the Intel Atom processors even at lower clock frequencies. However, there is one thing that has stopped most of the manufactures NOT to use it in their netbooks: PRICE.

frustrated

I feel acutely that once Intel and AMD, reduce the prices of the CULV processors a bit, most of the netbook manufactures will opt for equipping their netbooks with these more powerful CULV processors instead of Intel Atom CPUs.

ASUS total netbook line to be slashed to just 3 netbooks

ASUS has pretty odd down plans coming up for the next few months as they are planning to reduce the total lineup of the ASUS EEE PCs to just THREE MODELS. All will be running Windows XP and will come equipped with 160GB HDD. Which three are they going to be? It was not a job figuring out the models though. First is the just released EEE 1008HA followed by 1005HA, which is basically same as 1008HA but with removable battery and an extra USB port. Third will be their first netbook-cum-tablet, the T91.

This actually marks the demise of the EEE 1000HE and other models like EEE 1002H. What is ASUS thinking? At first, we saw them rolling out an EEE every week or so and now they are slashing down all of their popular EEEs (including the EEE 1000HE which is selling so well!). EEE 1000HE is one of the netbooks in the world, which can give you 7+ hours of battery life in real world use. This is sad, really sad.

No ARM/Android netbooks until Q1 2010

Asus has published its financial results today and it has revealed some interesting facts.

  1. Asus will continue to produce netbooks powered by Windows XP in 2009
  2. According to Asus CEO, X86 processors are more popular due to wide spectrum of applications available
  3. Netprofit decreased by 94% (this includes overall netprofit though)
  4. Netbooks running other operating system will emerge in Q1 2010. Not before that.

I think it is a right more by Asus. I believe the netbook market is still not enough ready for Android netbooks. The Android OS needs to become more powerful and more mature a bit more before vendors start putting it in their netbooks

XP lives! – Netbook vendors will be able to get XP for an year after the release of Windows 7

XP lives! – Netbook vendors will be able to get XP for an year after the release of Windows 7

Mike Nash, corporate vice president of Microsoft’s Windows product management group said,

“OEMs that are using Windows XP on netbooks will have the ability to install Windows XP for one year — 12 months — after Windows 7 general availability,”

What a great news this is for the netbook vendors! This means that XP won’t be vanishing after the release of Windows 7, which should be out in January 2009. Long live XP

On the other hand, we won’t be able to see a lot of netbooks officially running Windows 7 as the Windows XP is available for just $15 to the netbook vendors (some say, it is even lower). This helps them to bundle XP with their netbooks at a pretty low price. It is a quite obvious that whenever Windows 7 becomes availbble, Microsoft will be charging a lot more than $15 licence fee per netbook from the vendors. This would ultimately increase the overall cost of the netbook, which can give free operating systems, say Linux, a pretty good chance to take away some share from Microsoft.
