Convertible 3G netbook tablet – made in China for just $370
A Shanzhai netbook manufacture has come up with a $370 convertible tablet netbook. Even though Windows 7 has been released, some manufacture has the atrocity to release netbook with Windows XP. It has a 10.1-inch display.
Other Specs:
- Atom N270
- Intel 945GSE chipset
- 1GB RAM
- 160GB HDD
- BT, webcam
- BUILT in 3G
Shanzhai claims that it has 1366×768 display, but we think that it is no more than 1024×600.

7-inch netbook Windows CE netbook from Shenzen for kids: just $98
There are many reputed brands in the market which are doing their bit to provide cheap netbooks for kids. Some very nice examples we have are Disney netbook from ASUS ($350) and Dell’s Latitude 2100 (Mini Nickelodeon)($369). Clearly, the prices of them are now way less than the normal netbooks that you see in the market.
Shanzai has now unveiled a Windows CE nebtook for $100 only. Clearly, it must have been a difficult task for them to bring the price this low. It has a 7-inch screen; runs ona 266MHz ARM processor has 128MB RAM. Shabby, we know, but what more do expect from a $100 netbook?
Our take on it: It does not run Windows desktop OS and it does not even supports it as it is ARM based. Windows CE, although looks a bit like Windows XP with a classic theme, cannot run your windows apps. So, keep that in mind before purchasing a netbook running Windows CE

What do one miss in Windows 7 Starter as compared to other Windows 7 Editions?
After the long awaited demise of Windows XP, Windows 7 is finally making appearance in plethora of netbooks. To keep the costs minimum, Microsoft is suggesting the netbook manufactures to opt for the Windows 7 Starter. But, what would one miss if you are about to get a netbook with Windows 7 Starter? Here is the list of things that you would miss:
- Aero Glass, meaning you can only use the “Windows Basic” or other opaque themes. It also means you do not get Taskbar Previews or Aero Peek.
- Personalization features for changing desktop backgrounds, window colors, or sound schemes.
- The ability to switch between users without having to log off.
- Multi-monitor support.
- DVD playback.
- Windows Media Center for watching recorded TV or other media.
- Remote Media Streaming for streaming your music, videos, and recorded TV from your home computer.
- Domain support for business customers.
- XP Mode for those that want the ability to run older Windows XP programs on Windows 7.
For a user, that would be buying a netbook for surfing and office editing, none of the aforementioned missing features would affect the usage. The best thing that Windows 7 Starter did not inherit from Windows XP Starter is the notorious 3-app limit. I have no problem with Windows 7 Starter. Period.
ASUS EEE 1005HA Business Edition
ASUS has unveiled EEE 1005HA Business Edition. Clearly, ASUS wants to compete in the market of business netbooks which is mainly dominated by HP by its flagship Mini 2140 series and Mini 5101. So, what makes the Business edition different from the non-business edition? Well, the former comes with 2GB RAM as standard and runs Windows XP Professional (instead of Home edition). Also, you can get Vista pre-installed, if for some crazy reason you like Vista more than XP (on a netbook).
It comes with silver colour rather than black and white. Other specifications are same: Atom N280 processor, same 10.1-inch screen, 10.2 h battery life etc.

Robovie PC Robot
First of all, don’t be surprised to a robot news on Gadgetmix.com. We are not changing niches anytime soon. The reason why Robovie got mentioned on gadgetmix.com is the fact that this robo ‘netbook’ is powered by an Atom processor. Huh? This is actually not a robot, but a robot with netbook innards. It comes with an Intel Atom Z530 processor that runs at 1.6Hz, slightly faster than Z520 that comes in entry-level VAIO P (review). For OS, you can install either of these four operating systems: Windows XP, Vista, 7 or Linux.
A webcam resides in place of its ‘eyes’. It has 2 USB ports, LAN and VGA out. It is powered by a 2000mAh battery and it weighs 2.2kg. It is being priced at $4500 (including tax) (388800 yen!), it is made to burn a real good hole in your pocket.
The only thing that is robot-like in this machine is the fact that you can program its legs. For that you must use Windows as Linux is not supported. Its legs has high maneuverability and can adjust its height by bending his legs.
