Sony Vaio W eco-friendly edition unveiled

Sony Vaio W eco-friendly edition unveiled

Sony has gone eco-friendly with the launch of their latest netbook, which is actually an update to the existing Sony Vaio W. So, what makes the latest netbook by Sony more eco-friendly than the other netbooks? First is the use of mercury-free display with LED backlight; use of recycled plastic parts; eManual and a carry bag which saves 10% carbon dioxide emissions.

While most of the aforementioned reasons may sound pretty baseless and won’t be affecting the buyer’s decision much, Sony says that it will be offering a “special price” of this Vaio W. Let’s hope they come up with some more lucrative feature because going eco-friendly won’t fetch them more customers.

Specs have been improved in a sense that it now comes with Intel Atom N450 processor (1.66GHz) instead of Intel Atom N280. Other specs: Windows 7 starter, 1GB RAM, 250GB HDD, 10.1-inch display, 1366×768 resolution, WiFi b/g/n, Bluetooth, Webcam. Weighs 1.32kg with its small 3-cell battery

Commentary: Make the 6-cell battery as standard, without bringing any change in the price tag.

Rest of its specifications are likely to remain intact. Sony Vaio W is the SONY’s first cheap netbook that comes with Atom N280 CPU, 250GB HDD, 2GB RAM and Windows 7 Starter. The only thing not to like about this netbook that it comes bundled with 3-cell battery. Try getting one with 6-cell battery and you will be all set.

It’s the replica of the Sony Vaio W netbook. Intel relaxes its rules for Netbook displays – Higher resolution (1366×768) now allowed on N-Series Atom netbooks

N-Series Intel Atom processors were allowed to be used in netbooks with display resolutions upto 1024×600. Now, Intel has relaxed the rules a bit and has allowed the netbook manufactures to use up to 1366 x 768, which is the same resolution as sported by the newly released, Sony VAIO W. However, this change does not applies to netbooks more than 10.2-inches. Only the netbooks that have screen size upto 10.2-inches can use the high resolution along with Atom N270 or N280 CPU.
