Acer Timelines notebooks now with Celeron based CULV processors – Acer Timeline 3410T and Timeline 5410T

Acer’s Timeline 3410T is slowly appearing in retail shops along with its bigger brother 15-inch, the 5410T. Both the models use Intel’s 1.2GHz Celeron 723, the cheapest and slowest CULV processor around. Acer is doing this bring the prices of its CULV notebooks down. The 3410T is being sold for just €426 and Timeline 5410T for €475.

Prices are comparatively lower than some netbooks too because of the cheap CPU. The Timeline 3410T is actually not a bad deal at all: 3GB of RAM, a 250GB hard drive, 6-cell battery, n-wireless and HDMI

Asus UL series unveiled – UL20A, UL30A, UL50A and UL80A

Asus UL series unveiled – UL20A, UL30A, UL50A and UL80A

Asus has come up with a new series of CULV-based notebooks, to mainly tackle the Acer’s Timeline series.

First is the 13.3-inch model, the UL30A which measures 322 x 232 x 14.8-24.2mm, weighs 1.5kg (slightly smaller than the 13-inch Timeline 3810T) and includes the choice of getting one with a dual-core Celeron.

The only that incited us is the UL20A, the smallest of all of them. It is an 12-incher (1366×768 resolution) with dimensions 296x210x25.1mm and weighs 1.5 kg. You get the choice of getting one with Intel Core 2 Duo SU7300 processor (1.3GHz); Intel Core 2 Solo SU3500 (1.4GHz) or Intel Celeron SU2300 (1.2GHz). The ASUS’ site just mentions Windows Vista OS, not mentioning which version of Vista is being used. Unlike most of the netbooks, it has support for upto 4GB of RAM too. Acer Aspire Timeline 1810T: Chassis of a netbook, Heart of a notebook – this is what Aspire One 751H should have been!

Acer Aspire Timeline 1810T: Chassis of a netbook, Heart of a notebook – this is what Aspire One 751H should have been!

A lot of people have complained about Acer Aspire One 751H performance. Heck, we even got news that Acer is going to slow down the production of its 751H models as these models are not selling that well. Perhaps that is the reason Acer is introducing a model under its Timeline series that comes with the chassis of Aspire One 751H and uses Intel ULV SU3500 CPU that runs at 1.4GHz.

Also, instead of the usual Intel GMA 950 graphics that can support only upto 2GB of RAM, it will be using Intel GMA 4500MHD chipset that can handle upto 4GB of RAM. The upcoming Microsoft’s OS, Windows 7 will love the extra RAM.

One of the concerns of choosing a non-Atom processor can be a battery life. Well, do not worry about that as it promises 8 hours of battery life, which is on par with all the latest netbooks.

Commentary: Many netbook companies market netbooks as devices to *just* surf the web and for doing basic office editing. But, we all know that they are capable of doing much more than that. Now, with the use of ULV (Ultra Low Voltage) processors in netbooks, the boundary line between notebooks and netbooks gets even more blurred.

At first blush, it may seem fantastic, but we are pretty sure that it won’t be as cheap as regular netbooks which retail under $450.
