From outside, both netbooks and smartbooks look the same, but from inside, they run on totally different processors. Couple of days back, Qualcomm unveiled a smartbook that will be sold by Lenovo under AT&T.Lenovo is just one of the many OEMs and netbook vendors who will be rolling out smartbooks. Many other will follow their suit soon. It is surely going to be very interesting to see the reaction of the consumers as these smartbooks won't be able to run their favorite desktop apps. People buy netbooks because they perceive them as nothing but tiny laptop computers that run Windows XP/7, thus giving them the ability to run their desktop apps on it. Most of the smartbooks won't be x86 compatible and will feature processors based on ARM-infrastructure. One of them is the Snapdragon manufactured by Qualcomm that runs at 1GHz clock speed. This has been featured in many windows phones already including HTC TOUCH HD 2 and Toshiba TG01. We mentioned a couple of months about ASUS releasing their Smartbook. What could be the possible reason for delaying their Smartbook is the fact that ASUS suffered revenue loss which was in the news today.CEO Jerry Shen doesn’t have high hopes for the smartbook market, he is quoted as saying, ”Currently, I don’t see a clear market for smartbooks.”So there are two reasons for it. First, lets face it that ACER is kind-of becoming the undisputed leader in the netbook market although it entered after ASUS in the world of netbooks and thus ASUS is not able to sell achive its sales targets. Secondly, demand for Smartbooks is currently unknown. Last month, Acer decided to delay the launch of their netbook. The Wistron Firstbook is a Linux based netbook, which looks a lot like the VAIO P. It is a powerful machine with built-in 3G and 11.1-inch widescreen with Bluetooth and WiFi. It is running on the Snapdragon platform, which is also being used by Toshiba's TG01, a windows mobile device. The Snapgradon consumes much less power as compared to the Atom processor, but it is also less capable than the Atom.

Nokia to enter Netbook market?

NetBook

atom

intel atom

nokia

nokia netbook

snapdragon

Nokia is in talks with the various Taiwan notebook manufactures for its possible entry to the netbook market.
