Archos 10s To come in October – To carry a price tag of $399

Archos 10s To come in October – To carry a price tag of $399

Archos’ 10.2” Archos 10s netbook is soon going to hit the market in in mid-October and will be priced for $399. This model was made public back in June this year. Oddly, even though October is the month when the Windows 7 will be made official, they are still launching it with Windows XP.

The Archos 10s, although being seen as successor to Archos 10, it does not bring anything spectacular over the latter other than being slimmer and lighter. The specs have widely remained unchanged.

  • Intel Atom N270 processor (1.6GHz)
  • 10.2-inch display
  • 1024×600 resolution
  • 1GB RAM, 160GB HDD
  • 1.3MP Webcam
  • Windows XP
  • 0.86-inch thick
  • Weight: 1.06 kg

Archos is going to ship it with either a 3-cell (2.5 hours) or 6-cell battery (>5 hours). One thing I am not able to make out is the fact that some of the manufactures are still shipping devices with the old Intel Atom processor (N270). Call this their stubbornness or their (own) way to clear their old stock inventory, we cannot make out which one is correct.

Acer is soon going to unveil its Dual Core nettop, Aspire Revo 3600 at IFA. This model brings in a dual-core Atom 330 processor and 4GB RAM instead of the single-core Atom 230 and 2GB RAM. Lenovo postpones the launch of Lenovo S12 netbook until Windows 7 release

Lenovo IdeaPad S12 is one of the netbooks to have HD capabilities, thanks to the Nvidia ION platform. Sadly, Lenovo still has not released this powerful netbook to the masses. Reason: Windows 7. Yes, Lenovo has decided not to release their S12 netbook until Windows 7 is released.

Equipped with an already obsolete processor, Intel Atom N270, this netbook has a sharp display for sure as it packs in 1280×800 pixels in its 12-inch display frame! Anyway, we will see how this baby performs with Windows 7

ASUS to launch ion-based netbooks and nettops

ASUS is testing several netbooks and nettops based on the new Ion-technology. ASUS is expecting to launch Ion-based Eee Box B1006 in the 3rd quater of 2009, but there is no news on release date about the Ion-based netbooks.

Although the Ion-netbooks will be much more powerful than the current netbooks, but I doubt if they would be able to give 6 hour-plus battery life that almost all modern netbooks posses.
