HCL launches ME 06 netbook in India – Obsolete specifications: Do not buy

HCL, a company popular for claiming outsourced products as their own products, has launched a new netbook – ME 06 in India. It is one of the few 3G enabled netbooks available in India. Here are its specs:

• Intel Atom N270 processor
• 10.1-inch screen, 1024×600 resolution
• 160GB HDD
• 1GB RAM
• Intel 945 chipset
• 1.6kg
• 6-cell battery
• 3 USB ports, LAN, VGA

It comes bundled with numerous utilities like Lock Me, Encrypt me, Secure Me and Split Me. Being priced at $440 (Rs 21640), it certainly not the cheapest out there, but it is a brand that many Indians believe in.

However, we have heard that HCL support is horrid in India. Stay away from them

ION Powered ASUS Eee Box EB1501 now available in UK for £339

ASUS Eee Box EB1501 powered by ION is now in available in UK for £339. You can check Amazon UK for its availability or order it at play.com. It is available in two colors: black and white.

The ASUS Eee Box EB1501 features a dual-core Intel Atom 330 processor that runs @ 1.6GHz clock speed. It comes with 250GB Hard disk, 2GB RAM, NVidia ION graphics, Multi DVD-RW driver, has DVD slot and runs Windows 7 Home Premium.

ASUS’ Smartbook price confirmed: $180

We have mentioned about the ASUS Smartbook on many occasions (this, this and this). However, nobody knew the price at which it will retail for.

Well, it has been confirmed by the ASUS boss, Jerry Shen that it will retail at $184. Interestingly, now he has firm believe in the success of the Smartbooks. This is contrary to what he said earlier this year “I still don’t see a clear market for smartbooks”

We won’t blame him as then, Android was not considered so powerful and did not have such extensive application support. So it made sense to postpone their Smartbook’s launch. Now, as the Android platform is taking a firm grip in the market, it appears that it is the right time for the Smartbooks to finally enter the market of netbooks and notebooks.

HP Mini 110 Studio Tord Boontje runs Windows 7

Couple of months back, HP unveiled a couple of designer netbooks based on the HP Mini 110: “Studio Tord Boontje” edition and “Vivienne Tam designer” edition. We have come to know that the “Studio Tord Boontje” edition is now available with Windows 7 Starter edition.

It retails for $399.

Commentary: Frankly speaking, if you ask us, we won’t recommend you to buy this netbook as it runs Atom N270 which is, by no means, the most advanced and power-sipping processor. Secondly, the machine is over-priced for what it offers. 160GB HDD, 1GB RAM coupled with N270 makes the overall deal look awful

DosPara Prime Note Cartina HS Netbook now on sale in Japan

The Prime Note Cartina Netbook, which is basically an Averatec Netbook will start shipping in Japan soon. It is equipped with an Intel Atom N270 processor and the monotonous 10.1-inch screen, 1024×600 resolution, 160GB HDD, 1GB RAM and WiFi (b/g/n)

Surprisingly, it will be shipped with Windows XP Home OS even though Windows 7′s release is just around the corner. It will carry a price tag of $330 (29,800 Yen)

More customizable options on Dell Inspiron 11z netbook

From now onwards you can enjoy the plenty of customizable options available on Dell Insipiron 11z netbook. Dynamism has come with the pricing details about the Viliv S7. It will be coming in 3 versions:

1) The Entry Level Viliv S7, costing a modest $639 comes with 1.3GHz Atom processor with a 60GB HDD, a gig of RAM and runs Windows XP Home.

2) Second variant will come with a 32GB SSD instead of a hard disk drive. It will cost you $20 more than the entry level model bringing the price to $659

3) Third variant will have built-in 3G modem and will cost $799.
