Lenovo won’t be launching any Linux netbooks – verifies interest in Google Chrome OS

After lots of babbling and rumoring, Lenovo now came forward and authenticated about planning and considering netbooks with Google Chrome OS. However, it is going to a some time for the Lenovo to churn out netbooks totting Chrome OS as they do not even have Chrome’s Alpha code to test on their netbooks.

Lenovo also pointed out that Windows 7 has further widened the gap between Linux and Windows. According to Lenovo, people were returning their Linux netbooks as they were not able to run iTunes on it. As weird as it sounds, we actually think that Linux, especially Ubuntu 9.10 has come with plethora of improvements and new user-friendly features. Just because it cannot run iTunes does not means that it is an inferior OS.

Example: it takes less steps to install an app in Ubuntu than Windows. Just go to Ubuntu Software Center; find the app and click install. No more Terminal mumbo-jumbo

Internet Explorer gets a new life – Thanks to Google Chrome Frame browser plugin

Many of us are still using (or forced to use) the extremely annoying Internet Explorer which does not supports many of the web standards that a modern web browser should support. However, with the release of the Chrome Frame plug-in for the IE, you won’t be complaining anymore.

The Google Chrome Frame allow the IE to use HTML 5 elements and plethora of JavaScript enhancements that IE’s engine is unable to render.

What is our take on this? If you can, why not simply use Google Chrome or Firefox

Meet Gigabyte T1028 Tablet Netbook clone – ’100 See Ban Gu’

Though we have seen plethora of netbook replicas from China (see this, this and this) but, for first time we are looking at the CLONED convertible tablet. Bearing a weird name “100 See Ban Gu”, this 10.2-inch tablet netbook looks exactly the Gigabyte T1028 netbook.

It has standard netbook specs: Intel Atom N270 processor, GMA 950 graphics, 160GB hard disk, 1GB RAM, built-in wireless chip, Ethernet networking and a card reader. Nothing is yet know about its price or the OS that it will carry.

Kohjinsha introduces MT netbook with built-in Express card and TV-tuner

Kohjinsha has introduced a new netbook series called MT Series. This netbook comes with the Atom N270 processor clocked at 1.6GHz, 2GB RAM and 160GB HDD, which is pretty much similar to other netbooks we have seen so far, but what sets it apart from the plethora of netbook out there is its express card slot and TV-tuner.

The MT series is now available in Japan at a price of 49,800 yen, which is about $513. I’m pretty sure by the time it reaches in other parts of world, it won’t be equipped with the TV-tuner card. The netbook comes with 3-cell battery. The 6-cell battery is also there if you need more juice. There are 2 USB 2.0 ports and a multi-card reader.
