HP Mini 210 has Pine Trail!

HP Mini 210 has Pine Trail!

The Pinetrail equipped HP Mini 210 netbook has been spotted online on an e-tailer ECost website. The website has put up pricing and specifications of the HP Mini 210. The price ranges from $322 – $399. It has an adorable design and features a matte display. Colors available are Matte Silver, Sonoma Red, Black, Pacific Blue and Matte Black with some beautiful pattern.

So, here is a run down of its specs:

  • 10.1-inch display
  • 1.66GHz Intel Atom N450 Processor
  • 1GB RAM
  • 160GB-320GB HDD
  • WiFi b/g/n
  • GMA 3150 graphic chipset
  • 5-in-one reader
  • 3-cell or 6-cell battery
  • Webcam
  • Windows 7 Starter

It will, with a doubt, feature 1366×768 resolution as this is the trend right now. Another interesting feature: Chiclet keyboard which will be adored by many for sure.

Comparison between Pine View (Pine Trail) and current Atom CPUs

  • reduced motherboard realeastate: 2174mm(Atom)->773mm(Pineview).
  • Better memory support from N270’s DDR2 533 to DDR2 667
  • GPU core frequencies increased from 133MHz to 200MHz
  • PCB design now uses only 4 layers compared to 6 layers, which was previously used by Intel Atom
  • TDP dropped from 8W to 7W

Pine Trail-M Atom 2010 is smaller than current Atom processors

Intel has in mind to roll out Pine Trail-M mobile netbook platform in the Q1 2010. Good news is that the chip is going to be around 64% smaller than the current slew of Atom processors. Interestingly, it needs less power and its somewhat more cheaper to manufacture.

It is commendable that Intel managed to bring down the package footprint by 64 percent. Reason behind this is the fact that it has switched over from three chips to (CPU, Northbridge and Southbridge) to just two chips (CPU and Southbridge) in the Pine View processors.

When measured with Mobile Mark 05 office productivity Pine Trail-M platform will get you 20 percent lower power reduction, which in other words means even better battery life in Windows XP.

Commentary: Although the overall size will be smaller, but it is highly unlikely that manufactures are going to produce smaller netbooks. It is all about the market demand and most of the consumer want bigger displays and spacious keyboards.

Cedarview-D not going to bring abnormal increase in speeds

Cedarview-D, which is going to be the Pineview’s successor will be based on 32nm design. This means that we should expect some good increase in the CPU speed. Intel claims that we should expect 5-10% increase in performance. Intel has also promised to keep the power consumption below 10W which means it will be a very power-sipping processor.

So, the speed increase won’t be ground-breaking. It will just be marginally faster than the current Atom processors. Users who want more power and still want a power efficient processor should look at the Intel CULV-powered netbooks and notebooks.

PineTrail’s processor = Cedar Trail – coming to the netbooks near you in 2011

Cedar Trail is going to be the successor to the upcoming Pine-trail range of CPUs. Cedar Trail is destined to make its appearance in the year 2011. Also, Intel will most likely shift to 32nm (from 45nm) process which will make these CPUs even more power efficient.

According to Intel’s Vice President, the main aim is to get more integrated and cheaper platform for Intel partners (OEMs and Manufactures). After Pine Trail-based Atom N450 and N470 (for netbooks), as-well-as D410 and D510 (for nettops), the Cedar Trail processors will bring considerable performance increase compared to the processors that we are using right now.

Lenovo Ideapad S10-3 with Pine View processor spotted at FCC

Lenovo seems to be working hard in releasing S10-2‘s successor, S10-3 as-soon-as possible. It will run the Atom’s successor, the Pine View (same as PineTrail).

Other than that, it is a typical 10.1-inch netbook with 1024×600 display. It is likely to be accompanied by 250GB HDD and 2GB RAM as that seems to be the latest trend among the netbook manufactures.

Intel Atom N450 to bring $299 netbooks down to $249 (PineView/PineTrail)

Intel’s new Atom for netbooks, N450 is planned to be launched on January 3rd, 2010. Although the performance boost is not significant, but it has an impressive TDP of 5.5W. Thanks to recent announcement by Intel, expect a $50 price drop in the netbooks. So, a $299 netbook will cost $249 (depending on the configuration).

So for $50, you get an Atom N450 processor that runs at 1.66GHz clock speed, NM10 southbridge, integrated graphics and memory controller and Condor Peak WLAN.

MSI Wind U150 Netbook coming – based on Pine Trail – has touchscreen

MSI’s first Wind tablet netbook, MSI Wind U150 is soon going to be launched officially. Its going to be an 10-inch tablet convertible that will use the new Pine Trail platform. The screen will be resistive touchscreen. The MSI Wind U150 will run Windows 7, however it won’t support multi-touch. Perhaps, MSI wants to keep multi-touch for high end models.

Some information about the upcoming AMD-powered U120: It will be released in the first few weeks of September in the US. It will be available in two models: One with Windows XP, 1GB RAM and 160GB HDD, for $379, and another with Vista Premium for $429.

Note: For those who do not know about Pine Trail, it is the successor of Intel Atom processor

Intel: Goodbye Atom N270, Hello Atom N450!

Intel: Goodbye Atom N270, Hello Atom N450!

Intel has taken the decision to stop selling Atom N270 in Q2 2010 as it will be launching its successor, the Atom N450 which will replace the aging N270.

It does not mean that you won’t be able to purchase a machine with N270 processor after Q2 2010 as some manufactures can stock these chips and later use them in their netbooks. So, you can get two line of Intel products at the same time!
