Packard Bell DOT M/U FT-020: Rebranded Acer Timeline 1810T/1410
Packard Bell has launched a CULV netbook, DOT M/U FT-020 that has a 11.6-inch screen and looks exactly like the Acer Aspire 1810T. Even the innards of this netbook are exactly like 1810T that is basically an Acer Aspire 751H with a more powerful processor and more RAM.
As mentioned earlier, it has an 11.6-inch screen with a resolution of 1366×768. It uses SU3500 CULV processor that is more powerful than the Intel Atom processor. The SU3500 runs at 1.4GHz clock speed and has 3MB of cache memory. However, it is not as energy efficient as it gobbles up more power than Intel Atom N280 (2.5watts versus 5.5watts). Its GMA 4500 is also much more powerful and capable than Intel GMA 950 that comes in the most netbooks.
Just like the Timeline 1810T, it has 2GB RAM, 250GB HDD, WiFi (Draft-N) and BT. It has HDMI port, 2 USB ports, 1 LAN port, earphone and microphone jacks and SDHC card reader.
Its 5600mAh battery promises 7 hours of runtime which not shabby at all for such powerful netbook
Acer Aspire One 751H compared with Packard Bell Dot M/A
Netbook Italia (Italian) has done some serious comparison between the Acer 751H netbook and Packpard Bell Dot netbook.
- both have 1GB of RAM and 160GB HDD with 5400 rpm
- graphics – Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 500 for the Aspire One 751H and ATI Radeon X1270 for the Dot M/A, thus making the Packcard Bell more powerful than the Acer 751H.
- same ports and interfaces, 5-in-1 card reader, audio jacks, USB ports, WiFi b/g
- The Aspire One 751H come with a WEAKER Intel Z520 Atom processor whereas the Dot M netbook comes with an AMD Athlon 64 L110 a 1.2GHz. Despite slower clock speed, it is actually FASTER and more POWERFUL.
- However, the Packard Bell netbook comes with Vista Home Basic or Premium as OS which is slower than the Windows XP OS that comes with the Aspire One 751H
- same 6-cell battery in both of the netbooks
