Opera to build a browser inside Google Chrome OS? WTH

With the release of Google’s Chrome OS BETA, it was crystal clear that the only application that would run in Chrome OS would be Google’s very own browser, the Chrome.

The only way to add more functionality is by using Chrome browser extensions. Opera’s chief standards officer believes that Opera may be able to offer its excellent browsing speed and functionality right inside the Chrome OS’s web browser by offering the whole browser as an add-on.

Remember the Chrome Frame? An IE plugin to make the IE behave like Chrome web browser. This will be implemented, more or less, in the same way.

Redfly Mobile viewer impressions from a netbook and Windows Mobile user [Video]

Redfly recently released a viewer that can run on PCs. This viewer lets you to view and use your device’s screen directly from the PC. Now, Redly is not the first company to come up with such solution. Many other companies like SOTI have been offering similar solutions from quite a lot of time. What makes the Redfly different then? Well, it lets you:

  • use different resolutions (800×480, 800×600, 1024×600 and 1024×768)
  • has a projector mode which basically runs the Redfly applications full screen

I decided to load it on my netbook (EEE 1000H) instead of my laptop as netbook is something which I carry almost everywhere I go. Here is a video showing the real-life performance of the Redfly Viewer.

Opera has introduced a new concept called “Opera Turbo”. It is a server-side compression technique in which the Opera’s servers compress the web-pages and their elements before sending it to the client’s machine. It is axiomatic, the target market is not the people with the high broadband speeds. They won’t get much benefit out of this technology. The people who use slow internet connections and the people who are still trapped behind the slow EDGE and GPRS networks are going to the target market for the Opera.
