Mio unveiled its new smartbook, Mio V780 at the press conference. This baby packs in the wonderful Nvidia Tegra CPU. It it is a slate-type smartbook with an optional keyboard add-on.

The price is expected to be around 500 Euros and will hit the markets in Q2 2010. Pretty expensive for a non-x86 machine, but can you squeeze-out 4 hours of runtime from an x86-device ‘this’ thin?

Volkswagen Group to use NVidia Tegra chip

Nvidia Tegra is yet to prove itself in the world of portable computing, but it seems to be all set in making a big name in the world of luxurious cars. Volkswagen group has announced that it will be using Tegra chips in its car navigation systems in 2012.

The first one to use it will be Audi, followed by Volkswagen, Bentley, Lan Bocchini, Seat and Skoda. Other brands will follow their suit in 2012.

Folks at Tegra are expecting their shipments to reach 250-300 million in the year 2012 which may sound a too ambitious considering the fact that NVidia was able to sell just 50 million units in the year 2009

NVidia to declare Tegra 2 at CES 2010

Nvidia is planning to release Tegra 2 next year at CES 2010. The Tegra 2 will be twice as more powerful than the current Tegra-1 chip. It will use faster memory and even more faster graphic chipset.

Also, Nvidia has decided touse 40nm technology for Tegra 2.

Currently, the most popular device that uses Tegra chip is the Microsoft Zune and we must compliment Nvidia for the great job they have done with Tegra CPU. The Zune offers stunning performance, whether you talk about its graphics or raw CPU performance. We are hoping to see Tegra 2 implemented in upcoming smartbooks in a big way

“At CES we are going to make a major announcement about Tegra family. It is highly possible that we will see some very interesting form-factors coming out at the same time… You are going to see roll-outs and deployments of tablet PCs, smartbooks, netbooks, MIDs throughout the first half and then you will see major roll-outs of smartphones in the second half (of 2010),” said Hara, Investor Relations and Communications, Nvidia

MSI working on a Nvidia-Tegra based e-book reader

MSI has confirmed that they are currenttly developing an Nvidia Tegra e-book reader. MSI could have unveiled some more details, but due to some problems with the reader, one will have to wait until Q1 2010 to catch a glimpse of it.

In case you have forgotten, ASUS is also planning to unveil an ebook reader with 9-inch display very soon.
