Successor is generally more efficient and powerful than its predecssor. Right? Unfortunately, not in this case. Tests were done on the Acer Aspire 532G netbook that comes equipped with the ION-2. Compared to the old ION-1 chipset, the performance difference is as big as 13%. The old platform scored 3513 in 3DMark03 while the new breed scored 3049.

Of course, NVidia has questioned the validity of results since it is not officially released.

ION and Pinetrail – not a happy love story

As published on fudzilla, ION won’t support Pine-trail M or Pinetrail-D platforms, as reported by industry resources. Official words from Nvidia confirmed it too.

No worries though as Nvidia’s next generation ION will fully support Pinetrail-M netobook and Pinetrail-D nettops.

Nvidia ION 2 to be released after CES 2010 to the OEMs and Manufactures

We have posted plethora of times about the upcoming NVIDIA’s ION 2 chipset. According to the latest news bits, the Nvidia has confirmed that ION 2 will NOT be launched during CES 2010 event that will be coming in the month of January.

That said, it will showcased by many OEMs, but its official announcement will take place after CES. It will be launched in Q1 2010. So, what is the reason that Nvidia has pushed the announcement back? – OEMs such as ASUS, MSI, HP and Lenovo who are already pretty satisfied with the Pinetrail M and other pineview based CPUs.

ION 2 Pinetrail netbook by Acer to land very soon!

According to digitimes, NVidia has been given orders from Acer to make ION 2 based chips to support Pine Trail processors. The ION 2 graphics platform which expected two times more powerful than the current one.

This is, undoubtedly, the biggest hint that we can get from Acer regarding their upcoming pine-trail netbook that will also sport ION GPU.

Pine Trail processors include Atom N450, N470, D510 and D410 CPUs. Acer’s ION equipped Revo has been a hit among consumers and Acer expects the same for the upcoming ION-based netbooks too.
