More Maemo based devices coming – Nokia to develop Maemo based devices for high-end segment
Nokia has decided to focus on the development of the Maemo based MIDs (Mobile Internet Devices) for the high end mobile computing segment. Few days back, Nokia unveiled Nokia N900 which is based on Maemo platform and now Nokia will releasing even more MIDs in the future
It is unclear whether the upcoming MIDs will have cellphone functionality or not.
Nokia N900 MID/phone available on pre-order in the UK
In UK, you can now pre-order Nokia N900 MID at Nokia Online UK. Nokia is offering it for just £499 (inc. VAT) with free Sim card, which I think is a pretty decent deal for a MID+phone combo.

Nokia N900 being tested in Helsinki
According to thenokiablog.com, the recently unveiled Nokia’s Internet tablet, the N900 is being tested in Helsinki. Nokia’s services sales manager, Chanse Arrington, is testing N900′s apps (like Bounce, Twitter apps etc) before it is officially launched. Oddly, Nokia still believes that there flagship device is still Nokia N97, which they think is “more mass consumer friendly” than the Nokia N900.
“It’s not a hard concept. It won’t be positioned as a phone, but will be positioned as able to make phone calls,” he said
Commentary: This is weird. We fully agree with the fact that Nokia N97 is more consumer friendly, but that does not makes it the flagship device. The Nokia N900 runs better, more sophisticated OS whereas the Nokia N97 runs old Symbian OS for which I should rather not go into details. The Nokia N900 has bigger and better screen and is powerful enough for being a MID (Mobile Internet Device). Can you think of N97 as a MID? NO

Nokia N900 unboxed! – best looking MID
Nokia N900 is the Nokia’s latest offering for the MID-lovers. The Nokia N900 runs Maemo OS and comes with a 5MP camera. Orzlive.com was able to get hold of N900 and they have posted few unboxing pictures of this beauty.
Features:
- Full QWERTY keyboard
- Built-in GPS,、Wi-Fi and Bluetooth
- Display: 3.5-inch
- Resolution:800 x 480
- OS: Maemo 5
- FM radio
- 5MP camera
If the Nokia N900 had the capability to run Windows XP OS or even Ubuntu, I would have already bought it. Also, another big ‘minus’ in N900 is the fact that there is still no bump in resolution. It still runs at WVGA resolution, which is no more considered as ‘de-facto’. We thought that 2 years were enough for Nokia to realize that people want to see more at a time, but we were wrong!

Nokia N900 coming – Nokia Tablets are not dead!
Nokia is soon going to release Nokia N900, a MID (Mobile Internet Device) running Maemo OS. It is going to be equipped with WVGA display, 32-48GB storage memory, a 5MP auto-focus camera with flash (!). It will hit European retailers in the month of July.
Although, we are not huge fans of devices, which do not run Desktop OS like XP or Ubuntu, but we are happy to know that Nokia has not completely forgotten its loyal Tablet fans. Also, it is great that Nokia is bumping up the storage memory to 32GB, which will allow the users to store a lot of data, but the overall package could have become better if they had decided to bump up the resolution to something like 1024 x 600. WVGA (800 x 480) is commonly found in HTC Phones and MIDs need to have some sort of edge over the phones.
