Samsung N130 and Samsung N140 Netbooks to be launched soon – Ho Hum!

Samsung N130 and Samsung N140 Netbooks to be launched soon – Ho Hum!

Besides planning to launch their CULV-based Samsung X120 and X420, Samsung Russia has announced two new 10.1-inch netbooks: Samsung N130 and Samsung N140. It has ho-hum specs, nothing unusual or special:

  • 10.1-inch display
  • 1024 x 600 resolution
  • Intel Atom N270 for N130 and Intel Atom N280 for N140
  • Intel GMA 950 graphics
  • 160GB HDD, 1GB RAM
  • Draft-N WiFi
  • 0.3MP Webcam
  • 3 USB ports
  • VGA output port
  • 3-in-one Card reader

Look at the audacity of Samsung: Releasing a netbook with the Atom N270 processor in the Q4 of 2009! The N130, that has an Atom N270 processor and a pitiful 1.5W mono speaker comes with a 3-cell (2300 mAh) or 6-cell (4000mAh) battery. This is the same company that released the revolutionary Samsung NC10 netbook an year ago which sported a marvelous 6-7 hours of battery life.

The higher end Samsung N140 has an Atom N280 processor though. It also has Bluetooth 2.1, 3W stereo speakers and higher capacity 6-cell batteries (5200 or 5900 mAh). Gratifying, I must say. You can get one in white, black or dark blue color. Nothing is known about its pricing.

Intel to launch SU2300, Celeron 743 processors in September

Intel to launch SU2300, Celeron 743 processors in September

Intel is all set to introduce two CULV processors in late September. This includes SU2700 and the Celeron 743.

The Celeron 743 is supposed to be 100MHz faster than the current 723 model and will hit the market at the same price as the old Celeron 723, which used to cost around $107.

Whereas the SU2700 is a bit more promising and will cost $134. That’s half of what an SU3500 costs right now. The SU2700 CPU runs at 1.2GHz and features just 1MB of cache. But that does not make it a bad buy at all! It’s still a much better choice than the Celeron.

Intel is very sure that the 743 is 1.7 to 2.1 times faster than an Atom N270 in audio transcoding and image processing. The new processor are expected to make their debut in China in early September and globally later that month

Atom Z processors is STILL going to be available for netbooks – Earlier rumors were false!

Atom Z processors is STILL going to be available for netbooks – Earlier rumors were false!

You must have read our news regarding Intel not allowing Z-series Atom on netbooks. Intel has reacted to the gossip, and answered that they got the content wrong. Also a concerned person came forward and claimed it as misunderstood rumor.

“Rumors of ‘industry sources’ stating that Intel is no longer taking orders for Atom Z processors or ending production by end of year are 100% inaccurate”.

There you have it! Intel is still going to supply the Z-series Atom to the netbook vendors. Although we do not know whether to get happy by this news as we found Z520 processor in the Acer Aspire 751H slower than the N270/N280.

Intel relaxes its rules for Netbook displays – Higher resolution (1366×768) now allowed on N-Series Atom netbooks

N-Series Intel Atom processors were allowed to be used in netbooks with display resolutions upto 1024×600. Now, Intel has relaxed the rules a bit and has allowed the netbook manufactures to use up to 1366 x 768, which is the same resolution as sported by the newly released, Sony VAIO W. However, this change does not applies to netbooks more than 10.2-inches. Only the netbooks that have screen size upto 10.2-inches can use the high resolution along with Atom N270 or N280 CPU.

Intel: Goodbye Atom N270, Hello Atom N450!

Intel: Goodbye Atom N270, Hello Atom N450!

Intel has taken the decision to stop selling Atom N270 in Q2 2010 as it will be launching its successor, the Atom N450 which will replace the aging N270.

It does not mean that you won’t be able to purchase a machine with N270 processor after Q2 2010 as some manufactures can stock these chips and later use them in their netbooks. So, you can get two line of Intel products at the same time!
