Acer 532h review

Some juicy details about the Acer Aspire One 532h Pinetrail based netbook. It is a netbook with 10-inch display with a marvelous 1280×720 resolution. It runs the Intel’s new Pineview N450 processor that runs at 1.66GHz clock speed. Another great news for the GMA 500 haters, it packs GMA 3150 graphic chipset which will replace both GMA 500 and GMA 945 that was prevalent in the N270/N280 basd netbooks.

It will ship with Windows 7 Starter operating system.

The Aspire One is currently listed at Lithuanian reseller site with a price tag of £297/$483/€328 but we suspect that the price might even be lower once this one is released and shows up at e-tail.

The Intel’s Pineview N450 CPU has integrated DDR2 memory controller and graphics core built into the CPU itself, rather than the chipset.

MSI Wind U100 upgraded with Windows 7 with a slight change in Specs

MSI’s one of the popular netbook, Wind U100 has now been upgraded to Windows 7 Starter Edition, and this new model features the same: Intel Atom N270 processor that runs @ 1.6GHz, 10-inch screen, 1 GB memory, but now comes with 250 GB HDD.

However, there is a new N280 version available that runs at 1.66GHz. It is available in Europe right now.

Commentary: With so many models from MSI already on sale, it does not make much sense to keep a 1 year old model still for sale.

ASUS Eee PC 1001HA makes its apperance at the Global site

ASUS Eee PC 1001HA makes its apperance at the Global site

ASUS has now officially launched the EEE 1001HA. It carries the Seashell tag just like ASUS EEE 1008HA and ASUS EEE 1005HA. It carries an obsolete CPU: Atom N270 which was used by the netbooks of yesteryear.

Specifications:

  • 10.1-inch 1024×600 display
  • 1.6GHz Intel Atom CPU
  • 1GB of RAM
  • 160GB HDD
  • Wi-Fi 802.1 b/g/n
  • 0.3MP webcam
  • 3 USB ports
  • Windows XP or Linux OS
  • (why no Windows 7?)

  • 3-cell battery

Ouch! A 3-cell battery in the era of netbooks where each netbooks sports 6-7 hours of battery life? Stupid move, ASUS

There is no information regarding its availability or its exact price, but we expect it to low due to its shabby specs ($320-$350)

HP Mini 110 Studio Tord Boontje runs Windows 7

HP Mini 110 Studio Tord Boontje runs Windows 7

Couple of months back, HP unveiled a couple of designer netbooks based on the HP Mini 110: “Studio Tord Boontje” edition and “Vivienne Tam designer” edition. We have come to know that the “Studio Tord Boontje” edition is now available with Windows 7 Starter edition.

It retails for $399.

Commentary: Frankly speaking, if you ask us, we won’t recommend you to buy this netbook as it runs Atom N270 which is, by no means, the most advanced and power-sipping processor. Secondly, the machine is over-priced for what it offers. 160GB HDD, 1GB RAM coupled with N270 makes the overall deal look awful

New Atom N450 to be released in January 2010 – $20 more than Atom N270

New Atom N450 to be released in January 2010 – $20 more than Atom N270

Graphics and chipset all in a tiny chip! This is what Atom N450 is all about which will hit the market on January 3rd 2010. Being priced at $64 at its launch, it will cost $20 more than the now aging Atom N270, but the money is worth it. Why? Because it includes a GPU too!

Netbook manufacturers are very much excited because it contains two chips in one design and is about the same size as N270 processor. Although there won’t be much improvement in battery life.

Intel also has plans to launch many new products along with launching the Atom N450 officially.

Another replica of MSI Wind U100 From China by Wan Tat

Another replica of MSI Wind U100 From China by Wan Tat

MSI Wind U100 is one of the most liked netbook by the netbook manufactures who love making clones of netbooks. Here is another U100 clone, this time made by Wan Tat Technology. Made with so much precision, no one can point out any the difference. Even the specs do not differ! Intel Atom N270 with 10.2-inch display with 1024×600 resolution, 160GB HDD, 1GB RAM, 3 USB 2.0 ports and so on.

Priced at around $250 USD, one can actually get the original one at this price.

Netbook Vendors slashing prices for Atom N270 and Atom N280 netbooks – sadly, not for a good reason

Various netbook manufactures including the likes of BenQ, ASUS, MSI and ACER have reduced the prices of their netbooks that are equipped with N270 or N280 processors. The reason behind this price drop is the fact that vendors are now migrating their core focus from netbook to ultra-slim notebooks.

This is clear sign that most of the major netbook manufactures want higher profit margins. There is no doubt that netbooks are (still) selling like hotcakes from past couple of years, but profit margins are very slim which has forced the netbook vendors to shift their focus to ultra slim notebooks which retail for higher price than netbooks and offer higher profit margins too

Presenting Fedora Mini – Lightweight Linux for netbooks

Presenting Fedora Mini – Lightweight Linux for netbooks

Following the path of Ubuntu, which released Ubuntu NBR few months back, Fedora has also come up with special version customized to netbook environment.

The Fedora Mini SIG is a group of Fedora contributors that are interested in Fedora on small devices. Initially aimed at supporting NetBooks, Mobile Internet Devices (MIDs), it could over time be expanded to also cover things such as Set Top Boxes (STBs).

Right now, it supports EEE PCs, Aspire One and Dell Mini 9

It is not available for public download at the moment. However, if you are using Fedora 12 (alpha) at the moment, you can test it by typing yum groupinstall “Moblin Desktop Environment” and re-login.

Note: Netbooks with GMA 500 chipset are NOT supported at the moment, although it may be supported in the future, but not for now.
