Microsoft Marketplace fees revealed- not a good news for Windows Mobile developers

  • $99 to be a part of Marketplace
  • $99 for each application submission
  • Revenue split: 70% for the developer

On the brighter side, Microsoft won’t charge a penny from the developers in the year 2009. For $99 for each application submission? Looks like we are not going to see any iFart application for Windows Mobile.

Microsoft much-anticipated marketplace is just a mobile webpage?

Remember the Windows Mobile 6.5 screenshots that we published a couple of weeks back that confirmed the presence of Marketplace, which is the Microsoft’s answer to the Apple’s AppStore? Odd rumors are flowing all over the Windows Mobile world that it is also going to be just like one of those mobile-formatted website like the pocketgear’s app.
What Windows Mobile really needs is a real mobile application store application and not just a mobile version of pocketgear-lookalike. For example: It should tell the user about the new versions of their installed applications. We really hope that aforementioned information is not true.

The best news according to me is the CONFIRMATION of market place in those screenshots. Only Microsoft has the funds and the resources to make the application store for Windows Mobile successful. We hope that it is real
