Ubuntu Lucid Lynx 10.04 on Sony Vaio UX

Ubuntu Lucid Lynx 10.04 on Sony Vaio UX

A female geek from Liliputer installed the latest Ubuntu 10.04 on her amazing Vaio UX180 UMPC. However, it is even more exiting to see most of the components working straight out-of-the-box.

  • Touchscreen immediately recognized but required calibration
  • Sound working
  • The webcam did not work and required manual driver installation. The correct driver can be found here:  http://www.palmix.org/r5u870-en.html. The driver version is for kernel 2.6.30:  i386 (32bit). If you need instructions on how to install the driver, visit the link given at the bottom of this post
  • Rest everything worked without a problem

Ubuntu 10.04 codenamed Lucid Lynx – successor of Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala

Ubuntu 10.04 codenamed Lucid Lynx – successor of Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala

We are all waiting patiently for the upcoming Ubuntu 9.10 which is code named Karmic Koala. However, codename for the 10.04 version, which will be the successor of 9.10 version has already been planned and it is Lucid Lynx. It will be an LTS release which means that it will be supported for atleast 3 years for the desktop and 5 years for the servers. Ubuntu 10.04 aims at 10 second boot time!

“This is something that we get by virtue of the fact that we work with free software, you just couldn’t do this with proprietary software because you don’t have the visibility on the planning horizon,” Shuttleworth said.

It will be exiting to see what features the 10.04 brings for the netbooks other than its ultra-fast boot time
