Lenovo Skylight to sport dual-core CPU
Qualcomm 1GHz Snapdragon processor is powerful enough for the Smartbooks, right? Lenovo begs to differ and that is why they have decided to equip this much-awaited smartbook with 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon processor. An year ago, the 1GHz Snapdragon processor was the most powerful ARM processor around, but a lot of things have changed now. New, more powerful processors have surfaced and it is important to keep-up with the latest technology and trend.
The Lenovo Skylight Smartbook runs Android OS and will be released in Q4 2010.

Lenovo Smartbook Postponed
Back in January, Lenovo announced its first Smartbook, the Skylight for the American market. It was said it would be hitting the shelves in the month of April (2010), but now the Fudzilla is reporting that the launch date has been postponed until July (2010).
Also, it is has been observed that most of the netbook players don’t have their nuts on the smartbooks and are doubtful about the success of these ARM-powered smartbooks.

Lenovo Skylight review
Tech correspondent of the Singapore Daily, Darry Kang was lucky enough to get his hands on the impressive Lenovo Skylight Smartbook. According to his initial impressions, the flash is supported by the browser but it is slow as molasses in January. Heck, it could not even playback a YouTube video nicely. This is a shock to us as in our review, the HTC HD2 (also powered by Snapdragon) that we reviewed sometime back did not show any lags when playing back a YouTube video. Let’s hope they fix this bug as-soon-as-possible because this smartbook is all about web-browsing.

Let’s hope that it means Chrome Linux because that is exactly what we have been hearing about the Skylight from the past few months – see this and this

Qualcomm shows off its first snapdragon smartbook (Lenovo Smartbook)
It is soon going to be very puzzling as myriad of smartbooks are going to hit the horizon very soon. From outside, both netbooks and smartbooks look the same, but from inside, they run on totally different processors. Couple of days back, Qualcomm unveiled a smartbook that will be sold by Lenovo under AT&T.
Lenovo is just one of the many OEMs and netbook vendors who will be rolling out smartbooks. Many other will follow their suit soon. It is surely going to be very interesting to see the reaction of the consumers as these smartbooks won’t be able to run their favorite desktop apps. People buy netbooks because they perceive them as nothing but tiny laptop computers that run Windows XP/7, thus giving them the ability to run their desktop apps on it.
Most of the smartbooks won’t be x86 compatible and will feature processors based on ARM-infrastructure. One of them is the Snapdragon manufactured by Qualcomm that runs at 1GHz clock speed. This has been featured in many windows phones already including HTC TOUCH HD 2 and Toshiba TG01. Both of the phones have been found to be very speedy, but is it enough for a pleasant experience on a netbook? That is something we would like to see.

Lenovo to enter the Smartbook market! – Runs Google Chrome OS
According to Commercial Times (China), Lenovo is planning to launch a smartbook by the end of September 2009. The smartbook is rumored to use the Nvidia’s Tegra chipset and will use Google’s Chrome OS.
It is nice to see Lenovo using Chrome OS for their smartbook and not Google’s mobile phone OS, Android. After all, it does not makes any sense of using a mobile phone OS on a netbook.
