Android smart watches get in time with iPhone

GadgetMix2

Android smartwatches are starting to become known amongst consumers and tech enthusiasts. But some people are unsure about the differences between Android smartwatches and other brands of smartwatches, like the Apple Watch. Those who enjoy Apple over Google may not want to switch to Android Wear just to try out a different operating system. Well it seems that Google may have a way to solve this problem because they are releasing a new version of their Android Wear software that is designed for Apple’s “iOS” mobile operating system. Android Wear for iOS will be available for the LG Watch Urbane. In the future, there will be other Android Wear smartwatches that will support the Apple iOS. Some of these watches will be Asus, Huawei, and Motorola. Google plans to keep people informed on the latest developments in these future releases.

This latest move seems to be Google’s way of competing with the highly awaited Apple Watch. When people put on one of these Android smartwatches, it will be able to communicate with their iPhone because of the iOS integration. Now people who are predominately iPhone users can now purchase another Android device and use them together. Before, consumers generally had to stick with one brand. If they bought an Android phone then every other device the purchase had to be Android as well. The same went for Apple users too. People with iPhones needed iPads, iPods and so on. When Android Wear was first released it was only able to work with a Google operating system. But with this new ability for Android Wear to communicate with an iOS, it opens up all kinds of possibilities for cross brand communication.

Right now the fitness tracker Fitbit is the top selling smartwatch with Apple Watch coming in second place. It would be very hard for Android to make itself stand out amongst these top two competitors unless they did something unique with their smartwatches that no one else has done. This new move by Android will likely be the thing that keeps their watches selling and keeps them stable in the marketplace. For one thing, Android Wear is only $100 whereas the Apple Watch starts at $500. Most people are not going to pay $500 when they can pay $100, especially if it will communicate with their existing iPhone. The one bad thing Apple has going for it is its prices. They are always the most expensive computer brand on the market. Since smartwatches are not really that popular to begin with, it is unlikely that consumers will keep shelling out $500 for the newest Apple Watch. Therefore, Google has a strong chance of getting their Android Wear ahead of the game.

You’ll Be Able To Buy The Apple Watch In April (AAPL)

Buy Apple Watch in AprilSmartwatches have taken the tech community by storm. And of course, any kind of gadget that Apple releases is sure to draw attention. That is why excitement has already stirred up in the tech community after Apple CEO Tim Cook announced that the “Apple Watch” was going to be available in April. He did not mention a specific date for April, but it still has people curious about it because there was not much information revealed about the watch itself. That is why Apple will likely have another event where the specifications of the Apple Watch are gone over more thoroughly. People at the unveiling last September only got a tiny glimpse of its abilities.

The biggest deciding factor for people when it comes to purchasing anything is cost. Consumers have been pretty quick to purchase anything Apple though. But on the upside, the cheapest variation of the Apple Watch will be around $350. This is still kind of expensive, but not as expensive as a new iPhone. The variations of the watch itself have to do with the materials it is made out of. Some of the cheaper models will be made out of stainless steel while others will be made out of gold. So these aren’t just going to be technical gadgets that you are wearing on your wrist. They can literally be called jewelry because they will be as valuable as real jewelry. The gold Apple Watches are expected to cost in the vicinity of $5,000.

The second thing people consider in their gadgets is battery life. For the Apple Watch, its battery life is currently a mystery to people. The only information revealed by Apple was that you will have to charge your watch every night. This could mean the watch will stay charged all day, so by the time you go to sleep you can just recharge it then for the next day. Some rumors suggest the watch may have 19 hours of battery life on a single charge. This is more than enough battery life for most people who sleep 8 hours per day and are up for only 16 hours.

People are anxiously awaiting the next update as April is only two months away. Variations of the Apple Watch are expected to have different components in them as well. We will just have to wait until Apple’s next announcement in order to find out what these components are.

Apple Watch

AppleWatchSmartwatches have been slowly growing in popularity amongst techies. Apple is trying to get in on the action with their newest innovation, the “iWatch.” If you are not familiar with smartwatches, these are basically similar to the watches you wear around your wrist. The difference with smartwatches is that they can do much more than just tell time. They can monitor your heart rate, distance traveled, speed and more. The new Apple iWatch is going to have a lot of emphasis on monitoring health as well. That is why Apple hired a former employee of Nike, Jay Blahnik, and a former employee that has worked in medicine, Divya Nag, in order to help with the function of the iWatch. These employees have been assigned to the “special projects” area of this innovative development. Of course, nothing official about their work with Apple has been released yet. There are merely suspicions and rumors regarding their reasoning for quitting their former jobs to go work for Apple. After all, they already had great jobs with popular companies. Why quit those jobs for the role of “Special Projects” over at Apple? This is likely a temporary job anyways, unless they will continue assisting Apple in the development of more Smartwatches in the future.

The Apple iWatch is projected to be released in October of this year and will connect to the “Healthbook app” that is featured in the iOS 8. This is the reason why suspicion has grown surrounding these special projects that are being worked on by former employees of the health industry. They might not exactly be computer engineers or app programmers, but their advice on health and fitness could go a long way in helping the Apple geniuses program their app software. Overall, the Smartwatch market still has a long way to go before it becomes as main stream as Smartphones. After all, why would somebody want to purchase any kind of Smartwatch when they can just use the health app on their Smartphone to give them the same results? The only answer to this question is the ability for people to wear the device on their wrists without having to carry it or attach it to some clip on their belt. Unfortunately, you won’t be able to watch movies and videos on your Smartwatch just yet. However, as time goes on the technology of a Smartwatch may be able to achieve the same things as your Smartphone.

iPhone 5C will lack Siri and cost $300, or $0 with contract

Just weeks before the scheduled Apple event, that’s likely to bring us new iPhone 5S, speculations are in full swing about what price and features will the new budget iPhone 5C feature. An analyst from Gene Munster, Piper Jaffray, seems to think that Apple will justify the low cost iPhone by dropping some of the features.

Munster predicts that since iPhone 4 and older models do not have Siri enabled due to missing noise cancellation abilities, that new budget iPhone 5C will also lack this feature. New iOS 7 is also predicted to be limited on this iPhone 5C. iPhone 4S may be wise to scrap to keep the parity of the iPhone lineup. Apple will sell iPhone 5S, discount iPhone 5 and offer new iPhone 5C for $300 outright, or with two-year contract with nothing down.

Monster agrees with initial rumors of September 10th being the date for iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C unveiling. Mr Jaffray suggests new iPad and iPad mini will be launched at a later date in October along with new OS X Mavericks. New iTV (Apple TV set) is to be available for Christmas 2013 and iWatch (Apple smartwatch) and possibly iPhone Max (iPhone phablet) are to join the ranks in 2014.

Apple Q2 stats show first year-over-year profit drop in last 10 years

Apple had released its fiscal second quarter earnings yesterday. Despite the fact, that no new igadgets were introduced this quarter, Apple managed to pull a great profit, albeit with lower margins, hence lower earnings per share compared to same quarter last year. Apple still ranks as the company with the highest customer satisfaction and loyalty.

The total revenue for Q2 2013 was reported $43.6 billion, which is about 11 percent higher than $39.2 billion of same quarter last year.

Out of that $9.5 billion were net profits, or $10.09 per share. Last year’s EPS was $12.30. This is the first time since 2003 that Apple had reported a decline in earnings. Investors aren’t pleased of course, and Apple’s perceived image of being the indestructible high tech superpower, may be a bit tarnished. Is it in trouble? Not the least. The net income is great and idevices sell more than ever. The savings account shows healthy $145 billion and more groundbreaking gadgets are on their way. New iPhone 5S and rumored budget iPhone are to be introduced this summer. Apple iRadio Streaming Service showed be kicked off by then as well. In fall we’re expecting new iPad 5 to be launched along with rumored iWatch. Apple is also working on iTV and iPhone phablet.

Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO, speaking about Apple Q2 earnings admitted to slower growth, and offered buyback of Apple’s shares to increase the share price. A cool $100 billion is planned to be reinvested in Apple. This will increase the dividend to $3.05. This is the largest amount Apple ever invested in repurchasing stocks and it certainly shows a great confidence by Apple’s management in their company.

Apple’s stock price had risen and fallen in last 24 hours. In the morning hours we saw Apple’s share price being around $400 a share. Around the time of Apple investors’ conference at 5 p.m the stock shot to $430 a share for few minutes before it slummed down to about $410.

Apple Q2 2013 earnings

“We are pleased to report record March quarter revenue thanks to continued strong performance of iPhone and iPad,” Apple CEO Tim Cook noted in the release. “Our teams are hard at work on some amazing new hardware, software and services, and we are very excited about the products in our pipeline.”

iPod sold about the same as last quarter of 2012, although much less than Q2 of 2012. iPhones and iPads were bringing in cash as expected. 37.4 million iPhones and 19.5 million iPads were sold in this second quarter. That is much more than any quarter last year, but less than Q1 of 2013. iPads showed the greatest increase in sales from 11.8 million in Q2 2012. iPhones sales also grew, although at much slower pace. In the second quarter of 2012 Apple sold 35.1 million iPhones.

What’s ahead for Apple in third quarter? Profit margins are to remain hovering around 37 percent with operating cost of about $3.9 billion and generated revenue is expected to reach $35 billion.

Microsoft smartwatch

Microsoft watch – it probably isn’t going to look anything like this

Joining the ranks of Apple iWatch, Google smartwatch, and other smart watches by Samsung, and LG is Microsoft.

This is not the first time Microsoft showed interest in smart watch. A smartwatch with SPOT technology used to exist, but somehow failed to take off. The idea was that smart watch would enable (for a monthly fee) news notifications via MSN Direct service. The touch enabled watches cost around $800 then, but stopped selling in 2008.

Wall Street Journal talked to unnamed Microsoft executive, who admitted to contacting their suppliers in Asia regarding 1.5-inch displays for a wearable device.

Wearable technology is picking up on its steam this year and numerous large companies are developing smart watches ranging in functionality and looks. Smart watch is a wearable wrist device that is to respond to voice commands, to access various important functions of your smartphones, to notify user of weather, body temperature, GPS coordinates, and such. Pebble Technology is one of the pioneers of this segment. Pebble smartwatch will notify user of incoming email and text messages, Tweets, and phone calls.

 Windows Phone 8 Watch

Gartner’s analysts expect this wearable technology market to grow into a $10 billion industry. It is not clear whether Microsoft will manufacture a touch-enabled watch. At any rating, I am anxious to see more wearable gadgets coming our way.

Apple has been working on an iWatch for a while and rumors have been buzzing throughout the ecosystem, but newest reports suggest that there may be more to it. According to Bloomberg, Apple has a hundred engineers and designers working on a watch running iOS and handling some of the functions we see on iPod, iPad and of course iPhone. The iOS timepiece named iWatch is not in the experimental stages any longer.

Apple’s stock has dropped some 30 percent since it’s high shares of September last year. Tim Cook is being pressured by stock holders, who feel that Apple needs another groundbreaking product soon to keep its jump on the competition. Samsung and other OEMs are catching up to Apple at faster rate than originally thought and this leads to inevitable competition, lower profit margins and lower share prices.

“The iWatch will fill a gaping hole in the Apple ecosystem,” Bruce Tognazzini, a technology consultant and former Apple employee, wrote in a blog post last week. “Like other breakthrough Apple products, its value will be underestimated at launch, then grow to have a profound impact on our lives and Apple’s fortunes.”

Apple had worked on wearable devices which never came to fruition. All the knowhow and research accumulated and this time around, iWatch should be the next big thing for Apple. Analysts believe that wearable technology is the new direction in the consumer’s electronics. At CES in Las Vegas we saw a Pebble Smartwatch capable of synching with a smartphone and reporting. Other gadgets like FitBit work well in fitness industry, measuring calories, steps and other data. Google is said to work on wearable computers embedded in eyeglasses. Vuzix Smart Glasses M100 provide a virtual display to your smartphone. Foxconn has already invested in WIMM Labs company designing a smartwatch with touch-screen, WiFi and Bluetooth. If wearable technology is the next big thing, Apple should be all over it.

iWatch

If Apple wants to lose sight of its competition in the rear view mirror than Apple needs to make a phablet, a plastic budget iPhone, iTV and smart watch.

Steve Jobs’s true legacy lies not with his products, but his method, the way he would forge revolutionary products from cold blocks of creativity. I know. I was one of his earliest recruits and watched him develop the method. Steve applied it one project at a time. My hope is that Apple now has teams applying it across many projects, shortening the historic six years between breakthrough products.
