Pine Trail Atom CPU Prices announced – Expect Pine Trail netbooks to be expensive

Pine Trail Atom CPU Prices announced – Expect Pine Trail netbooks to be expensive

Fudzilla has been able to get some details about the prices of Atom N470 processor, which runs 1.83GHz clock speed. Unfortunately, it is not going to be as cheap as the Atom N270.

The N270 Atom processor retails for $44 whereas the current set price for the Atom N470 processor is $75. The N280 processor, which was the sucessor of the old Atom N270 processor retails at $64. $20 difference is enough for the company to stick to old processor despite the new power-saving features brought by the new CPU.

The difference between N270 and N470 is $31, which is lot to make netbooks look more expensive compared to cheapo laptops that you see in local stores.

MSI will be there with its Next Generation netbooks this December

As reported by Digitimes, MSI will be brining a slew of new generation netbooks in the market in the month of December. It is being expected that the new netbooks will have the Pine Trail-M platform. It will also come with Windows 7 and features touch screen capabilities as we are expecting this year to the year for tablet netbooks.

Some technical advancements offered by Intel’s next generation of netbook processor:

  • reduced motherboard realeastate: 2174mm(Atom)->773mm(Pineview).
  • Better memory support from N270’s DDR2 533 to DDR2 667
  • GPU core frequencies increased from 133MHz to 200MHz
  • PCB design now uses only 4 layers compared to 6 layers, which was previously used by Intel Atom
  • TDP dropped from 8W to 7W
Intel Pine Trail launch delayed

Intel Pine Trail launch delayed

Remember the Pine Trail processor that we mentioned last month? Well, the Pine Trail processor line was supposed to be launched at the later part of this year (October), but according to Digitimes, Intel has deliberately delayed the launch of Pine Trail processors to the early next year, which means that you won’t see netbooks using the pine view processors until the second quarter of  2010.

The main advantage that the Intel Pineview processor brings over the Intel Atom CPU is the possibility to use higher clock frequencies.Other advancements include:

  • reduced motherboard realeastate: 2174mm(Atom)->773mm(Pineview).
Intel to launch Atom N270′s successor in October – Atom N450

Intel to launch Atom N270′s successor in October – Atom N450

Intel is all set to introduce the successor of the very popular N270, the N450. The Intel’s 45nm Atom N450 is codenamed as PineTrail (pineview) and it comes with built-in Northbridge functions. It will also comes with (new) NM10 chipset. Intel will fully phase out the N270 in the Q1 2010.

Although the Intel did release N280 after N270, but it was never meant to be a true successor of N270. The N270 was infact the first CPU that made the netbooks adequately powerful for everyday use.

Here are some features of PineView:

  • Better memory support from N270’s DDR2 533 to DDR2 667
  • GPU core frequencies increased from 133MHz to 200MHz
  • PCB design now uses only 4 layers compared to 6 layers, which was previously used by Intel Atom
  • TDP dropped from 8W to 7W

Intel is planning to launch Intel Pineview in the second half of 2009 to replace the Intel Atom in netbooks and nettops. Intel still do not plan to introduce dual-core processors in Netbooks in near future. On the other hand, dual-core Pineview processor is in the tunnel. The main advantage that the Intel Pineview processor [...]
