Soon to Ship: Intel Atom Oak Trail
It’s been a while since we reported on Intel Atom Oak Trail chips as the production has been delayed. A whole new wave of low powered processors is now ready to be released by Intel. These chips are designed mainly for tablets and mobile devices that are ultra portable. The first one up is the [...]

ECS Tablets showcased at CeBIT
Several tablets are being revealed by Elitegroup Computer Systems at the CeBIT event in Germany. This Taiwanese company manufacturing original devices n so you would normally not see an ECS brand on US shores. However, you might see the same product on a different brand name. Let us start with the list of tablets that [...]

Atom Fanless CPU design on Linutop 3 nettop
Linutop has just released a mini desktop that is Linux-based with a processor that is low power. Now, they have released the Linutop 3 and they changed the existing VIA chip with an Intel Atom one. The device does not use top of the line components but compared to its older brother, it is a [...]

Intel dual core netbooks to be launched during the holiday season
Fudzilla has received a tip dual-core Atom netbooks will be making their way to the market shelves later this year. This dual core chip is clocked at 1.5GHz clock speed and has a TDP of 8.5W which implies great battery life. In comparison, the Atom N475 which is a single core CPU has a TDP of 6.5W.

32nm Atom processor coming in H2 2011
The Intel Atom pine view processors are going to live for full 1.5 years before they will be replaced by the next generation of Intel Atom CPUs which are called the “Cedar Trail Atom processors.” Intel is most likely to introduce these processors in the H2 2011. These chips in 32nm feature full HD support, which should be more than enough to make you exited.
Cedarview-D not going to bring abnormal increase in speeds
Cedarview-D, which is going to be the Pineview’s successor will be based on 32nm design. This means that we should expect some good increase in the CPU speed. Intel claims that we should expect 5-10% increase in performance. Intel has also promised to keep the power consumption below 10W which means it will be a very power-sipping processor.
So, the speed increase won’t be ground-breaking. It will just be marginally faster than the current Atom processors. Users who want more power and still want a power efficient processor should look at the Intel CULV-powered netbooks and notebooks.
Intel Atom to power embedded devices as well
According to economictimes, Intel believes that Atom CPUs can be used to power not only netbooks and nettops, but also embedded devices like mobile banking devices, point-of-sales terminals, GPS monitoring devices, personal healthcare gadgets and so on.
“Atom fits well in the embedded space and devices, which deliver internet-centric experience or needs to be powered by internet. A lot of such devices are under development and may hit India soon,”

Intel Atom CE4100 unveiled – this thing is a beast!
At IDF 2009, Intel announced a new Atom processor, Atom CE4100 media chip. This chip is designed to run on set-top boxes and Blue-ray players. It is the most powerful Atom chip ever made by Intel.
When we say that it is powerful, we really mean it. It has the ability to take two 1080p video streams simultaneously, 3D rendering and much more.
It even supports capturing uncompressed 1080p video including support for almost all the high-end audio codecs. However, Intel has no plans to bring to netbooks or nettops. Gratifying, but looks like, we have no choice, but to settle with ION chipsets from Nvidia

Lenovo slashes prices of Ideapad S12 – for both VIA and Atom based models
Lenovo has slashed the prices of Ideapad S12, which is available in two variants:
- VIA Nano S2250 that runs at 1.3GHz clock speed
- Intel Atom N270 that runs at 1.6GHz clock speed
The VIA Nano one used to cost $449 whose price has now been reduced to $429. The Atom based S12 got a more significant price drop of $50 (from $499 to $449). There are no differences in both models other than use of different processors. Both come with 160GB HDD, 1GB RAM, 6-cell battery and Windows XP Home edition.

Intel Pine Trail launch delayed
Remember the Pine Trail processor that we mentioned last month? Well, the Pine Trail processor line was supposed to be launched at the later part of this year (October), but according to Digitimes, Intel has deliberately delayed the launch of Pine Trail processors to the early next year, which means that you won’t see netbooks using the pine view processors until the second quarter of 2010.
The main advantage that the Intel Pineview processor brings over the Intel Atom CPU is the possibility to use higher clock frequencies.Other advancements include:
- reduced motherboard realeastate: 2174mm(Atom)->773mm(Pineview).
- Better memory support from N270’s DDR2 533 to DDR2 667
- GPU core frequencies increased from 133MHz to 200MHz
- PCB design now uses only 4 layers compared to 6 layers, which was previously used by Intel Atom
- TDP dropped from 8W to 7W
