MSI U130, U135 launched in India

MSI has unveiled two new pine trail netbooks in India – MSI WIND U135 and WIND U130. Both are very similar in terms of specifications – Atom N450, GMA 3150 and so on. MSI is also bundling a CPU clock utility similar to Asus’ Super Hybrid Utility.

Price: MSI U130 - $500 (Rs 23000) and MSI U135 - $543 (Rs 25000). Pretty expensive compared to US price, if you ask me. MSI U135 is being retailed for $329 in US

PS: for those who don’t know, those two netbooks are the first ones to receive the International WiMax Forum Certification

Acer India launches Aspire D250 Android in India for $400

We mentioned last month that Acer would be launching its first Android netbook in the month of November and according to the latest news bits, Acer India has already rolled out Aspire D250 Android version in India for a fairly low price of $400 (Rs 18599). At this price, you get Windows XP and Android OS, both in one machine.Specifications have undergone no change at all. It still uses Atom N280, 160GB HDD, 1GB RAM and GMA 950 chipset. It is better to stick with GMA 950 than having something like GMA 500 under the hood which just did not give us good performance while reviewing the VAIO X.According to netbook india, Android is yet to take off in India, so it may not be considered as the coolest feature on the netbook.

BenQ U121 Eco and U102 released in India

BenQ has released its U121 Eco netbook and U102 in India. The U102 has pretty standard netbook specs except for the fact that U102 has a bigger 250GB hard disk. Looks like the netbook war is heating up in India. Intex, a computer peripheral maker has launched its first netbook, WC1100 in India at price under $400. The netbook comes with typical netbook-ish specs that include an Intel Atom N270 CPU, 10-inch display, 1024x600 resolution, 160GB HDD and 1GB RAM (expandable to 2GB).It also comes with Wifi (b/g), Bluetooth and a 7-in-one card reader. SONY launches VAIO P with Windows XP in India (VGN-P25G) – still no XP version for USA

SONY has silently launched Windows XP version of VAIO P in India at a price of $999 (Rs49,990). The Windows XP version comes with just 1GB of RAM and that too soldered to the motherboard. This means that you are stuck at 1GB of RAM forever.Also, the new XP model, VGN-P25G comes with Z530 processor that runs at 1.6GHz as opposed to Atom Z520 processor that runs at 1.3GHz. The speed difference should be huge as XP runs pretty well on all netbooks as opposed bulky Vista, which gives awful performance on VAIO P with Z520 processor[VAIO P VGN P25G webpage (India)]

India buys 250,000 OLPCs

Couple of months back, we reviewed the Nova Navigator, touted as "India's $100 PC." But, it was a nettop and not a laptop or a netbook. As a result of that, Indian Government has decided to purchase 250,000 XO OLPCs. These machines will be distributed in nearly 1500 schools throughout the country.OLPC launched a pivot program in India in the year 2007, where the OLPC gave away 20 XO in the Khairat-Dhangarwada village in the state of Maharashtra (India).OLPC is an organization which sells low cost laptops to the governments of developing countries. The XO laptop by OLPC does not come with any fan inside. However, it is dirt and moisture resistant which makes it ideal for use in dirty environments.
