Sony VAIO P – Windows 7 Drivers and How to get everything working

Sony VAIO P – Windows 7 Drivers and How to get everything working

SONY VAIO P originally shipped with the Windows Vista and later on, after few months, we saw official Windows XP variants of it. Windows Vista, out of box, ran pretty badly due to the large amount of crapware installed by Sony. I went for a fresh Windows Vista installation (at that time) and tweaked the heck out of it and it ran pretty fine. Now that the Windows 7 is finally here, it made perfect sense to try it out. I installed it via USB method that I mentioned here

HP MINI 2140 HD pictures

HP recently released the 1366 x 768 resolution version of HP Mini 2140. The high resolution as expected, gives better options for web browsing, photo editing, etc.

Personally, this resolution is much better than 1024 x 568 pixels that come with the non-HD version of HP 2140.

Top 10 reasons you should NOT get a SONY VAIO P

Top 10 reasons you should NOT get a SONY VAIO P

  1. Over-Priced: We fully understand the fact that it is SONY. But, paying so much for a device that performs so poorly does not make any sense
  2. Super high resolution: What is the point of giving the user super high resolution in an 8-inch screen? Is SONY under some contract of putting so outrageous resolutions in small screens? Looks like they learned nothing from their UX series which squeezed 1024×600 pixels in an 4.3-inch display
  3. HDD not easily upgradable: Although we do not upgrade the HDD everyday, but it should be easily swappable in case something goes wrong with the HDD or if the user wishes to use SSD
  4. Non-upgradable RAM
  5. Poor performance by the entry level model: 1.33GHz simply chokes while running Vista
  6. Even entry level model costs nearly twice as much as other netbooks in the market
  7. Making the entry level model bundle with Windows Vista
  8. Whole device is built around the keyboard and not anything else: I guess the engineers at SONY did not use the device for more than 5 minutes.
  9. Trackball: Trackpad is the way to go.
  10. Below-average or just average battery life with the standard battery: Even if the SONY is entering so late in the netbook market, it should have already made out that the people want netbooks with REALLY good battery life. Netbooks with 2-3 hours battery life are things of past now.

Do yourself a favour and get something on which you can really work upon.

11-inch netbooks coming in 2009

11-inch netbooks coming in 2009

If last year was the year of rise of 10.2-inch netbooks, this year, we are going to see 11.6-inch Netbooks. Asus and Acer are planning to launch 11.6-inch netbook models with a 1366 x 768 pixel resolution. If you guys do not know, this is the same resolution that is sported by the Sony Vaio TT series and VAIO TZ series. Till now, there are three major criteria that differentiate a netbook from a notebook:

  • resolution
  • screen size
  • processor

First two are blurring away as netbook manufactures are not only bumping up the screen size, but resolution is also getting a jump from 1024 x 600. So what is next? Core 2 Duo or Celeron 2 processor in a netbook anyone?
