Asus Eee PC 1201T

Asus Eee PC 1201T

After recently Asus launching Eee PC 1201N and the eee 1201HA, Asus is going to release a new 12-incher, the Eee PC 1201T. Interestingly, ASUS has gone with AMD this time; equipping the Eee 1201T with an AMD Congo MV40 processor (1.6GHz). It even features an integrated ATI Radeon HD3200 chipset.

Update – Asus Eee 1201T review is now online

Specifications:

  • 12.1-inch display
  • 1366×768 resolution
  • 320GB of HDD or 256GB + 500GB
  • 2GB RAM
  • 6-cell Battery
  • Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n
  • 2 Audio Jack
  • 1 VGA port
  • memory card reader
  • weight: 1.46kg

The ASUS EEE PC 1201T is fully capable of running 1080p videos with ease, something which most of the netbooks so far have struggled to cope up with. The keyboard on the ASUS EEE 1201T is chiclet, which looks similar to the one found in the SONY VAIO X and SONY VAIO P. It comes with a 6-cell battery. Asus claims that you will be able to get 4 hours of runtime from it. This clearly shows that the AMD Congo is nowhere as power-efficient as the Atom CPUs.

So, you do get 1-2 hours less battery runtime, but on the brighter side, you get much more muscle power.

10-inch VIA-powered netbook costing $185 – made in China

10-inch VIA-powered netbook costing $185 – made in China

Meet Phecda PHV102, a 10-inch netbook powered by VIA C7 processor. Here is a quick glance at its specs:

Chipset: VIA VX855 1.6GHz
RAM: 1GB DDR2
HDD: 160GB
Display: 10.2”, 1024 x 600 resolution
Battery: 3-cell 220mAh
Weight: 1.2kg
Ports: 3xUSB, VGA, LAN, card reader
Price: USD 185

The VIA C7 was used in the 1st generation netbooks like HP Mini 2133, whose performance was disappointing as it came with Vista. This machine runs XP and we know it very well that XP runs pretty decent on VIA C7 CPU.

But, we must confess that we despise that little right shift key.

Convertible 3G netbook tablet – made in China for just $370

A Shanzhai netbook manufacture has come up with a $370 convertible tablet netbook. Even though Windows 7 has been released, some manufacture has the atrocity to release netbook with Windows XP. It has a 10.1-inch display.

Other Specs:

  • Atom N270
  • Intel 945GSE chipset
  • 1GB RAM
  • 160GB HDD
  • BT, webcam

Shanzhai claims that it has 1366×768 display, but we think that it is no more than 1024×600.

HP Pavilion DM3 CULV notebook gets new CPU – Core 2 Duo SU4100

Announced a month back, the HP Pavilion dm3 packs Core 2 Duo SU4100 that runs at 1.3GHz clock speed, 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD and, oddly, a DVD burner. It packs in discrete graphics, Nvidia’s G105 with 512MB of memory which is huge as most CULV-based notebooks do not feature discrete graphics.

It roughly has a battery life of upto 8-hours. Impressive specs with a not-so-impressive price, €799.

HP Mini 110 Studio Tord Boontje runs Windows 7

HP Mini 110 Studio Tord Boontje runs Windows 7

Couple of months back, HP unveiled a couple of designer netbooks based on the HP Mini 110: “Studio Tord Boontje” edition and “Vivienne Tam designer” edition. We have come to know that the “Studio Tord Boontje” edition is now available with Windows 7 Starter edition.

It retails for $399.

Commentary: Frankly speaking, if you ask us, we won’t recommend you to buy this netbook as it runs Atom N270 which is, by no means, the most advanced and power-sipping processor. Secondly, the machine is over-priced for what it offers. 160GB HDD, 1GB RAM coupled with N270 makes the overall deal look awful
