Firefox coming to Android OS

Firefox coming to Android OS

Mozilla’s engineer, Vladimir has posted a screenshot of Firefox running on an Android emulator. This means that, a full, add-on capable version of Firefox will soon be coming to Android phones and tablets.

However, there is a lot of difference between running something on an emulator and running the same thing in the actual hardware.

You’ll note that this is the full Firefox interface, and not the Fennec/Firefox Mobile UI; we’re testing with the full interface because it’s significantly more complex than the mobile UI and stresses Gecko much more. So, if the full UI works, then Fennec should work fine as well. Given the interest in Android on netbook and tablet devices, an updated version of the full Firefox UI might find a home on some of these.

Fennec RC2 released (Maemo Only)

Fennec RC2 released (Maemo Only)

Mozilla has released RC2 of the Fennec browser for Maemo platform. The latest release includes the latest layout engine Gecko 1.9.2 RC1.

Point your maemo device to Firefox.com/mobile to download it!

Fennec aka Firefox Mobile updated for Maemo OS

Guys over at Mozilla have updated the Fennec web-browser.

- Go to the nightly repository. The repository is basically a large file server with folders for each combination of source code branch and language localization.
- Choose the branch you want (trunk == mozilla-central / 1.9.2 == mozilla-1.9.2). Fennec 1.0 is being released from the Mozilla 1.9.2 source code branch, so you probably want to use “1.9.2_*” branch.
- Choose the locale you want. You probably want the multi-locale bundle (”*_multi”), but you can choose a different one.
- Click on the “*_nightly.install” file in the appropriate repository. This should automatically start the Application Manager on your Maemo device and Firefox for Maemo will be installed.

It now has faster response time, thanks to the change in its installation location
