ASUS EEE 1008HA – Battery Life

The ASUS EEE 1008HA, unlike all other EEE PCs comes with a built-in battery as opposed to external battery. By the slim looks of it, one may think that it would not be able to deliver sufficient amount of battery life to make it last long enough, but we were wrong.

I started off the day with battery fully charged. Immediately after the boot up, I switched to Power Saving mode as I wanted to know the maximum runtime it can deliver. It was showing me 5 hours and 45 minutes. Note that, this was with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth disabled and I was not connected to the Internet in any manner. I then did some of my office work at a random coffee shop. After working for an hour or so and brightness set to just two notches above the minimum brightness levels, it was still showing me 5 hours and 15 minutes of runtime.

Then, I got into my car and used my WiMax (3.5G) modem with the help of an extension cable. Why an extension cable? See this post to know more about it.

ASUS Eee PC Seashell 1008HA officially launched

The ASUS has unveiled the very corporate-looking EEE SeaShell 1008HA, which is the thinnest EEE PC till date. It weighs just 1.1kg; features a great keyboard and has impressive power-management features, which gives you upto 6 hours of battery life.

Specifications:

  • Intel Atom N280 processor
  • 1GB RAM
  • 160GB hard drive
  • 10″ LED-backlit WSVGA display (1024×600 pixels)
  • 1.3MP webcam
  • 802.11b/g/n wireless, Bluetooth
  • 2x usb 2.0 ports
  • Windows XP / Linux
  • Stereo Speakers

However, keep in mind that it comes with an internal battery. So, after an year or so, you will have to send it back to Asus to get the battery changed. Also, it completely rules out the use of extended batteries.

Video of EEE 1008HA shell

Folks at Registerhardware have posted a nice video of EEE 1008HA. In the video, ASUS representative have shown the concept and theories behind the 1008HA. I really like the improved keyboard and the slim design. They claim that they have made a lot of improvements on the software side too, where they particularly mentioned the new EEE dock. I do not think that it is very useful. I would have appreciated a custom shell for the Windows instead.

ASUS to showcase the EEE SHELL 1008HA and S121 at CeBIT 2009

Remember the ultra-thin EEE SHELL that we mentioned a couple of days back? Well, ASUS is planning to unveil the SHELL AKA 1008HA at the CeBIT 2009. The SHELL 1008HA is rumored to be slimmer than the current flagship EEE, S101 and will offer more battery life than the EEE S101.

Along with 1008HA, the company will also showcase the recently released S101H, Eee PC T91, Eee PC S121, UX and U-series ultra-thin notebooks and Eee Keyboard. More exciting news coming, the S101′s successor , S121 is also going to be launched, which will have a whopping 512GB SSD drive. Yes, that is not a typo. It will be the first netbook to feature such spacious SSD drive. However, it is cost you at mind-boggling $1649. For those who want to be remain on the cheap side, they can opt for the 120GB HDD version, which will retail for $899.

At $1649 and with 512GB SSD, one does not need to be a rocket scientist to figure out that the ASUS S121 is directly going to rival the Macbook Air, which retails more or less, at the same price. However, will it still be called an EEE? That is miles behind of being called as a cheap netbook.
