Onkyo’s DX Dual Screen netbook, better than Kohijinsha DZ

Even though Onkyo DX Dual Screen netbook is just a re-branded Kohjinsha DZ, it is better in some aspects. Instead of using a low-res 1024×600 display, Onkyo is offering it with 1366×768 resolution. Also, Onkyo is offering 2GB (not 1GB) RAM with it (expandable to upto 4GB). You also get more storage, a 320GB 5,400rpm disk (not 160GB).

It runs 32-bit Windows 7 Home Premium as its OS. It is priced at ¥84,800 (about $966)

It was noticed at CEATEC 2009 in October, branded as the Kohjinsha DZ and will be on sale in coming month in Japan. Yes, we talking about the Kohjinsha’s 10.1-inch dual display netbook. According to the latest news bits, it will priced at 79,800 yen or $920. Its product page is now up and can now be pre-ordered.

The Kohjinsha DZ has twin 10.1-inch display with 1024×600 resolution, thus giving you a total resolution of 2048 x 600 pixels. It features AMD Athlon Neo MV-40 processor that runs at 1.6GHz clock speed,1GB RAM (upgradable to 4GB), 160GB Hard disk, 1.3MP cam, AMD RS780MN chipset + ATI Radeon HD 3200 integrated graphics, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR, Wi-Fi b/g and Ethernet. It runs Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit operating system. There is also a Fingerprint scanner that sits on the right of the screen. There is built-in TV Tuner with antenna too. The overall weight is 1.84kg. Heavy, not only due to presence of two displays, but due to its heavy 5200mAh 6-cell battery. Expect runtime of upto 4.5 hours.

At this year’s CETEC 2009 Japan, Kohjinsha first unveiled its dual screen netbook concept. A new video has cropped up which shows that the dual screen concept is pretty well engineered.

The one-laptop-per-child (OLPC)’s price has been lowered to $180. Although, not exactly $100 as it was originally rumored to, any price reduction is highly appreciated (from $204 to $180). Negroponte is going to roll out its next version of the OLPC netbook, which will sport a dualscreen with virtual keyboard on which it would be interesting to see how easy it is to type on the virtual keyboard.
