ASUS Eee PC 1008P-GO hits FCC

At FCC, a new netbook by the name of ASUS EEE PC 1008P-GO has been observed. What makes this version different from the current EEE 1008HA model is the fact that it comes with 3G and Atom N450 (1.6GHz) processor whereas the non-3G model (1008HA) has Atom N280 processor. Rest of the specs appear to be same: 1GB RAM, WiFi b/g/n, 160GB HDD, 2.1 Bluetooth and a 1.3MP Webcam.[FCC]

UMID M2 unveiled – now features regular USB port

Here is another clamshell by the makers of M1 MID, the UMID M2. UMID has taken wraps off the successor of the UMID M2 at the IDF 2009. There is now regular USB port on the side, unlike the M1. It comes with an 3.5mm headphone jack and tiny trackpad with two mouse buttons.The main thing that makes this MID interesting is the fact that it is based on x86-platform, which allows it to run Windows XP OS. Also, since it is a clamshell MID, they can sit on a desk just like your regular netbook/notebook.

Benq launches Joybook Lite U102

Benq has added a new netbook model to its lineup, the Joybook Lite U102. The only difference that makes this netbook different from Joybook Lite U101 is its Atom N280 processor and 3G module. Other than that, it is similar to Joybook Lite 101:

Atom N270 or Atom N280
1GB RAM
160GB HDD
Windows XP Home
3 USB ports, BT 2.1 and WiFi
3-cell or 6-cell battery

Nobody had thought 2 years back that the netbooks would become so popular. Last year, the netbooks had already conquered 20% of the total notebook market. This year, it is being estimated that netbooks will account for nearly 37% of the total notebook sales by the end of this year and about 40% by the year 2012(!).However, by 2012, I don't think there would be any difference based on the feature set between a notebook and netbook (except for the small size, of course).

ASUS EEE 1002H released!

After releasing EEE 1000HE, which was an incremental upgrade for the EEE 1000H (better keyboard, more battery juice), ASUS has silently rolled out EEE 1002H, which is basically an upgrade version of the EEE 1002HA, which we reviewed a week back.So, what has changed? Since I have EEE 1002HA with me, the differences were easy to notice:

Chicklet keyboard: The ASUS EEE 1000HE's keyboard has been inherited to the EEE 1002H. This keyboard looks and feels like the keyboards that are found in macbooks and some VAIOs.
Better processor: The 1002HA has the N270 processor. The new 1002H comes with N280 Atom processor.

What has not changed? The battery is still 4200mAh li-polymer battery. While this battery should give you 3.5 hours to 4.5 hours easily, it would be difficult for it to achieve 6 hours plus battery life, which is becoming a standard feature in netbooks now.---read the review of EEE 1002HA

ASUS EEE PC 1004DN to be released in the US

ASUS EEE PC 1004DN has passed the FCC (link), which increases its chances of making its debut in the US market. The 1004DN is the first EEE PC with a built-in DVD drive. It has two features which makes it different from 1000H:

inclusion of DVD drive
use of N280 processor (1000H uses N270)

Specifications:

Atom N280 (1.66GHz) processor
10.2” 1024x600 Display
1GB RAM
160GB HDD
802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth
