Dell teams up with OPI – brings fancy colors to the Dell Minis

Dell has teamed up with a company called OPI to bring colorful and funky design to the various Dell notebooks and netbooks. The colors have pretty funny name likes “I’m Not Really a Waitress,” “Big Apple Red,” “Strawberry Margarita,” “Rosy Future” and “Kyoto Pearl. The Dell will be offering even more colors and will also revise the colors based on the colors that are most popular.

“Dell and OPI’s offerings are a fresh collision of style and power, color and technology,” said Rachna Bhasin, general manager, partnerships and personalization or global consumer. “OPI’s high style and Dell’s award-winning technology combine to offer people stylish options that deliver the ultimate combination of color and connectivity on the go.”

Dell Mini 10v now being offered with Moblin Linux OS – World’s First Moblin Netbook

Dell Mini 10v now being offered with Moblin Linux OS – World’s First Moblin Netbook

At IDF 2009, Dell announced to offer the Dell Mini 10v with Moblin Linux OS (they are instead using the name “Ubuntu Moblin Remix Developer Edition”). This makes it the first Moblin netbook and will start selling it on 24 September 2009 at the price tag of $299.

As its name suggests, the Dell Mini 10v is targeted towards the developers and not for the average consumer, which is weird as Moblin OS is one fo the most polished Linux OS ever made for netbooks. On a weird note, the bluetooth does not work on the Dell Mini 10V even though it has BT onboard.

For those who do not know about Moblin, it is a project by Intel to bring optimized Linux OS to the mobile devices.

Dell Mini 10 absent from Dell UK’s Website

Is this a mirage or Dell is really done with its Dell Mini 10? Some folks over at the MyDellMini forum found that the Dell Mini 10 model is absent from Dell UK. A couple of months back, Dell discontinued the Mini 9 netbook which was then replaced by the Mini 10 (although it is still on sale in UK).

The Dell Mini 10V is still on sale though.

Dell Inspiron Mini Nickelodeon Edition – Disney’s Netpal netbook gets some competition

Dell Inspiron Mini Nickelodeon Edition – Disney’s Netpal netbook gets some competition

Its not only the ASUS that is offering netbooks for kids. Dell is also soon going to launch its special edition for young ones, Dell Inspiron Mini Nickelodeon Edition.

Just like the Disney netbook, we expect some fancy Windows XP themes, wallpapers and some comprehensive parental control app to block the naughty side of Internet. The prices are yet not disclosed but it would be costlier than a regular Dell Mini 10v. It will be launched somewhere in October at the Dell’s own website and at Walmart.com

As in the picture, you can see slime green color and designs based on SpongeBob SquarePants and iCarly cartoon characters.

It’s or first product that focused on kids. Since it’s a netbook that weighs less than three pounds, it’s easy for kids to bring it from room to room or in the car during a road trip. From a spec standpoint, the Nickelodeon edition is based on our popular Inspiron Mini 10v. Kids (or their parents) will be able to choose from three different Design Studio designs: SpongeBob, iCarly or Green Slime

Cellular South to offer Dell Mini 10 netbook with built-in 3G!

Cellular South has announced that it will very soon start offering the Dell Mini 10 netbook with built-in 3G. This netbook will be made available under a contract for a price of $199 for two years. You will have to pay $59.99 per month with bandwidth allowance of 5GB. There is also another contract in which you will have to pay $39.99 per month, but monthly allowance is mere 500MB (0.5GB). There is 20% discount for students too.

Our Suggestion: Instead of binding yourself with such an expensive contract, we would suggest you to buy it directly from Dell and using 3G-dongle with it.

Dell to offer GPS and location features on their Dell Mini 10 netbook

Dell to offer GPS and location features on their Dell Mini 10 netbook

GPS and location based features have gained immense popularity in the latest smartphones, but Dell thinks both of these should also be there in their netbooks and that is the reason Dell is now offering them on its Mini 10 netbook.

All you have to do is to select “Dell Wireless 700 location solution” while customizing your Mini 10. According to Dell blogger, it will also come with turn-by-turn navigation, thanks to CoPilot navigation software.

“We’re betting that location services will be a hit in netbooks,” said Dell blogger Lionel Menchaca. “The Mini 10 is the first system that we’ll offer with the optional Dell 700 Wireless location solution. Stay tuned for more details about more supported systems.”

It is functional only in Windows XP, Vista and upcoming Windows 7. It won’t work in Linux OS.

Could this be the Dell’s 11-inch netbook?

Could this be the Dell’s 11-inch netbook?

We have already told you that Dell may be working on a netbook with an 11.6-inch display. At an event in Paris, Dell folks were holding two ‘small laptops’ which looked just a little bigger than the Dell Mini 10.

I hope Dell won’t use the under-powered Z520 processor in it, which runs at 1.3GHz clock speed.
