ExoPC sports Broadcom Crystal HD video accelerator

We have managed to get some more enticing details about the exoPC. It will support hardware decoding of various HD video formats, including H.264, VC-1, WMV, MPEG-2 video and yes, HD flash video too, all thanks to the wonderful Broadcom Crystal HD Video accelerator chip. The ExoPC features 11.6-inch display with 1024×600 resolution and is powered by an Atom N270 processor. You get an SSD (capacity unknown) and 2 gigs of RAM which should be good enough to run Windows 7.

It will be released in US, Canada, and France on September 7 (2010).

Broadcom’s new all-in-one chip, which features both WiFi and Bluetooth radio on a single chip has been selected by the various netbook/notebook vendors. This includes the big guys like Acer, ASUS and Lenovo.

This chip will help the manufactures and vendors to lower the cost of their netbooks as-well-as notebooks as they won’t have to buy separate chips and will help them to conserve space on the already cramped logicboards.

Broadcom’s triple combo which includes three radio, WiFi, Bluetooth and FM has been selected by HTC, Acer, Qisda and Foxconn to lower the price of their upcoming models.

Broadcom to develop an ARM-cortex A9 CPU

Broadcom, popular maker of computer chips has announced recently that they are working to make their own ARM cortex A9 processor. Right now, they have not said where this chip will be used, but we expect it to be used in Smartbooks: netbooks based on non-x86 platform.

A single core Cortex A9 is capable of delivering twice the performance of current crop of smartphones. When talked into the context of smartbooks, it can have upto 4 cores(!), making multitasking smooth and enjoyable experience

HP has announced to to refresh its Mini 1000 series by launching two new models, mini 110 and mini 1101. Both of the models will offer enhancements and some features that were deliberately omitted from the original mini 1000 (example: VGA out and faster HDD)

Both mini 110 and mini 1101 will now feature VGA-out port as-well-as faster Hard Disks (160GB @ 5400rpm). If that was not enough for you, HP is also going to offer a dedicated HD-decoder chip from Broadcom as an option for those who love watching HD movies on the go.
