Asus 1215N and Asus 1201N differences

Yesterday, folks at netbooknews.de showed-off their new shiny Asus 1215N netbook which is powered by the Intel Atom D510 processor. Yes, this is the same processor that is meant to be there in the nettops. But, for some reason, they have equipped this 12.1-incher with this very capable CPU.

So, are there any cosmetic changes in the Asus Eee 1215N or is it still all glossy like the rest of the Asus 12-inch Eee PCs? Well, fortunately the answer is yes. The new design of the Asus 1215N has more streamlined look, thanks to its flushed battery. It has matte palm rest and lid; keyboard too has moved-up a bit. Also, gone is the dotty surface of touchpad. The touchpad now sports a smoother finish.

Asus prepping Eee 1201K and 1201X netbooks

Folks at netbookitalia have somehow grabbed the product manual of the unannounced Eee PC 1201K and 1201X. The 1201X has same Seahshell design like the rest of the models in the 1201-series, but unlike Asus Eee 1201N and Eee 1201NL, it does not sports an HDMI port. The Eee 1201X is even more interesting with no USB ports at all on its left side. They both are likely to be powered by AMD Neo processor, also used in the Asus Eee 1201T

New BIOS for ASUS EEE 1201N

There is a new BIOS for the ASUS EEE 1201N. It does not adds anything new but fixes a bug. Here is its description of the bug

ASUS’ 12-inch Ion based Eee PC 1201n to be released in mid-January, is now available for pre-order on Amazon. It has a dual-core N330 processor that runs at 1.6GHz clock speed, 2GB RAM (8GB max), a 250GB HDD, Bluetooth, WiFi b/g, webcam, and Windows 7 Home Premium as OS. For this, you will have to loose your pockets, to pay $500.

With Atom N450′s release just round the corner, it makes less sense to buy something that is going obsolete in just 1 month. If you don’t care about that, the EEE 1201N is not a bad buy at all!

It is being offered with Windows 7 Home Premium (not starter or basic edition) so that you can enjoy Aero on it in its full glory. After all, you have the strong ION GPU to back it on.

ASUS made the right decision by not bundling this amazing netbook with the atrocious GMA 500 chipset. At $499, it may sound expensive to some, but, then it has far better specs than the SONY VAIO X that we recently reviewed
