Acer Aspire One 521

Acer Aspire One 521

Acer is prepping a new netbook powered by an AMD chip. Internet reports suggest that it will use the ULV AMD V105 processor that runs at a clock speed of 1.2GHz. Let’s hope this new AMD single core processor is more powerful than the AMD Neo processor found in the Asus 1201T, which is more muscular than Atom N450/N470 processors. This rumored Acer netbook is being called Aspire One 521 and will also feature ATi Radeon HD 4225 and the AMD M880G chipset. According to the source, it will have upto 7 hours of runtime, which is pretty unrealistic for a netbook with a GPU.

Since the GPU has “HD” in its name, we are pretty sure that this netbook should be able to playback those nice HD videos easily. However, this does not confirm whether it will be equipped with an HDMI port. Asus Eee 1201T also features an ATi Radeon HD chipset (model 3200), but there is no HDMI port on the machine.

There is no information on its launch date or price. We will keep you guys updated if we find some more information on it.

AT&T Acer Aspire One netbook with built-in 3G now just $80

AT&T Acer Aspire One netbook with built-in 3G now just $80

Whenever netbooks or mobile phones are bundled with subsidized plans, the prices are greatly reduced. Now, the Acer Aspire One netbook, which was the best seller last year is now available from AT&T at just $80.

This is a pretty good deal for a netbook that still sports pretty impressive specifications:

  • Atom N270 processor
  • 120GB HDD
  • 1GB RAM
  • Windows XP home
  • 8.9-inch screen
  • 1024 x 600 display

However, it comes with just 3-cell battery which will be able to give you just 2 hours of battery life

Top 10 reasons you should NOT get a SONY VAIO P

Top 10 reasons you should NOT get a SONY VAIO P

  1. Over-Priced: We fully understand the fact that it is SONY. But, paying so much for a device that performs so poorly does not make any sense
  2. Super high resolution: What is the point of giving the user super high resolution in an 8-inch screen? Is SONY under some contract of putting so outrageous resolutions in small screens? Looks like they learned nothing from their UX series which squeezed 1024×600 pixels in an 4.3-inch display
  3. HDD not easily upgradable: Although we do not upgrade the HDD everyday, but it should be easily swappable in case something goes wrong with the HDD or if the user wishes to use SSD
  4. Non-upgradable RAM
  5. Poor performance by the entry level model: 1.33GHz simply chokes while running Vista
  6. Even entry level model costs nearly twice as much as other netbooks in the market
  7. Making the entry level model bundle with Windows Vista
  8. Whole device is built around the keyboard and not anything else: I guess the engineers at SONY did not use the device for more than 5 minutes.
  9. Trackball: Trackpad is the way to go.
  10. Below-average or just average battery life with the standard battery: Even if the SONY is entering so late in the netbook market, it should have already made out that the people want netbooks with REALLY good battery life. Netbooks with 2-3 hours battery life are things of past now.

Do yourself a favour and get something on which you can really work upon.

EEE PCs are still the best selling netbooks, at least in Japan

ASUS EEE PC are still the best selling netbooks in Japan with having nearly 27% of the total market share of netbooks. Also, EEE 1000H is the best selling netbook in Japan followed by Lenovo Ideapad S10 and Acer Aspire One.

Commentary: The reason behind the EEE 1000H’s success is simple. With newer EEE PCs rolling out in the market, the price of the 1000H has fallen down considerably. The full-featured netbook along with an irresistible price tag have together resulted in great sales.
