ARM-Based Netbook with Apple Logo lands in China

ARM-Based Netbook with Apple Logo lands in China

At numerous occasions, Apple has stressed on the fact that they are not interested in the netbook market as they think that netbooks do not have the horsepower to run anything other than a web-browser (which is NOT TRUE). But, this has not stopped a local Chinese manufacture to make a FAKE Apple netbook with a ‘glowing’ apple logo. This ‘fake’ netbook uses an ARM CPU and runs Linux or Windows CE. It comes with a 3-cell battery and weighs only 1.7 pounds. All this for an affordable price of $200.

Although it comes with 3-cell battery, but it should still give you long run time as ARM CPU is almost 10-times more power-frugal than the Intel Atom CPU. But, keep in mind that ARM CPU is not x86 compatible and this means that you won’t be able to run desktop OS like Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7.

Yet another Apple Netbook news

Yet another Apple Netbook news

With so many rumors about the Apple netbook already floating, here is another one whose mockup has been made by folks at MacFormat. According to them, the upcoming netbook from Apple should use the iPhone OS. I believe that would be good move by the Apple as there are thousands of great applications for the iPhone’s OS. However, how that would work on a bigger screen with more pixels will surely be interesting to see

CONFIRMED: No Apple Netbook coming

CONFIRMED: No Apple Netbook coming

After months and months of rumors about the Apple netbook, Apple’s chief operating officer finally confirmed in harsh words that Apple will never produce netbooks as they do not deserve the MAC brand. Here are the exact words,

When I look at netbooks, I see cracked keyboards, terrible software, junky hardware, very small screens. It’s just not a good consumer experience and not something we would put the Mac brand on. It’s a segment we would not choose to play in.

He further said, if you want smaller screens, you can go ahead and buy iPhone/iPod for that. This makes me wonder how can an iPod Touch replace my netbook. I own several Windows Mobile devices along with iPod Touch (latest 2G version) and I firmly think that in no way they can ever replace my EEE 1000H.

iPod Touch and Netbooks are both two very different devices. Both of them have their own specific use. I like iPod Touch and WM devices as they are way more mobile than any netbook in the market. But, when I need to do some serious work, I always look up to my EEE 1000H (which is still very portable as compared to normal notebooks).

What this actually shows? This shows that Apple’s Chief operating officer, Tim Cook has actually never used any of the modern day netbooks as none of them have cramped keyboard, ‘junky hardware’ or terrible software.

Apple Netbooks coming soon? – Foxconn to build Apple netbook

Steve Jobs once said “We don’t know how to make a $500 computer that’s not a piece of junk.” This statement was not much liked by a lot of netbook users as we ourselves know how capable these machines are. The latest rumors point towards Foxconn Electronics, which is supposed to make the Apple’s first netbook. Most of the rumors point towards a device having 10-inch screen and running Mac OS X. It is also supposed to have WiFi and built in 3G to use the cellular networks for Internet surfing.

According to About.com, there may be two ways in which the Apple Netbook may be retailed:

  • via Apple and its retail stores
  • via cellular providers
